New LED lighting at 1,600 properties will save an anticipated $2.4 million in annual energy costs 7-Eleven ® turned to LED lighting with the goal of reducing operating costs and utility spend THE SITUATION When 7-Eleven ® wanted to reduce its operating costs, its attention immediately turned to LED lighting. “You can hit a double or swing for a home run, and the home run was our site lighting―from under the canopy to the parking lot to the building,” said Mark Morgan, Manager, Stores Engineering for 7-Eleven. “The old lighting is HID, so we were dealing mostly with 400-watt metal halide fixtures with low Color Rendering Index (CRI). Testing showed LED would give us about a 60-percent savings on our utility bill, increase the CRI and do a better job of not infringing light on neighboring properties, so light trespassing wasn’t an issue.” THE SOLUTION GE’s Evolve ™ LED Canopy Lights, Area Lights and Wall Packs have now been installed at many 7-Eleven locations.
