I THE ARTS IN LOUTH
Dermot Ahern, TD Minister for Foreign Affairs
ITAR~~~~~E IS A ~~~~Louth today is one of the most culturally vibrant and confident counties in Ireland. Like
POlTIA nowhere else on our island, it is at the social, cultural and economic interface between
GE&TL4RE ~~~~~~~~~North and South. It is also where the transition from economic poverty to prosperity and
C0NS~~~NcE SHORt O~~~ from conflict to peace, is most evident. These are all important factors which contribute
to the creation of an artistic exuberance here-to-fore unknown to us. The complex
out-workings of these factors and forces will, I have no doubt, be seen powerfully in the
years ahead in our architecture, design, visual and dramatic arts.
III.; ~~~~~~~~~~The county of Louth has changed beyond recognition. For future generations we need to capture this change through artistic expression, to visually document the before, the
present and the after.
Against that background I am delighted that the renowned Irish Arts Review has decided
to publish a special edition on the county.
Dermot Ahern TD
Minister for Foreign Affairs
