Getting Started

• Click “Start a New Page” button

• Let every Filamentality page completely load

Basic Information

• Main Topic: Keep this short. It’s not the title; it’s the subject of your activity page

• It will be used as default text throughout Filamentality including sub-title introduction, and other fields

What’s the main topic of your page?


Basic Information

• Username and Password: Choose a username and password that makes sense to you and is easy to remember

• Do not use odd characters and symbols which might cause Filamentality to fail

• Your username and password can never be changed, so choose carefully


Spin This Thing

• Click “Spin This Thing” to save your information



Check Basic Information

• After you click on the “Spin This Thing” button, you have a chance to double-check and edit the information you entered

• Use an email address that you feel comfortable posting on the Internet

• You could print out the page with your username and password and save it


Add Links

• Click on the navigation menu at the bottom of the Filamentality page to “Add Links”

• Cut and paste the URL, Title, and Description (optional) into the correct fields

• Keep clicking “Add Links” to insert links in groups of three until you are done

Filamentality Search Tips

Provides a brief description and links to several popular search engines to help you locate good sites.

• Click “Edit Links” to check your links• Use this page to periodically update your links

Hotlist

• Once you are satisfied with your links, click “Hotlist” to save your work and start your activity page

• A Hotlist provides a good list of resources related to your topic

• A Hotlist is the easiest format to make

• A Hotlist is the starting point for all other formats (treasure hunt, scrapbook, sampler, webquest)



Customize Your Hotlist

• Add Your Title:Your title can be creative, descriptive, or simply the subject/grade you teach. You can come back and edit this later.

The Wonders of Filamentality



• Add Your Introduction: Edit, delete, or add to the default text to let your students know what they can expect from this page or activity.

In addition to using books and magazines to find out about Using Filamentality, why not also use the power of the Internet? The links below will get you started.



• You might want to provide assignment instructions, due dates, and background info that you think is necessary

• Take advantage of this opportunity to create your own unique text

• Once again, you can always come back later and edit


Categorize Your Links

• After you customize your Title and Intro, you can categorize your links into 6 different categories or subsections

• Type your categories into the boxes provided

• If you don't categorize your links, they will appear under the default heading "Internet Resources"

• Categorized links will appear underneath “Internet Resources”


Hide Links

• If you don't want some of your links to appear on a page, you can “deselect” them

• A checked box means link will appear



Finishing Your Hotlist

• Colors (Optional): You can customize your page by choosing background, text, link, and visited link colors

• Let’s skip this and finish creating our hotlist. You can return to this page and change your colors later if you want



• Click on Hotlist below to save your changes and post your Filamentality page on the Internet

• If you click on any other format, you will be starting a new Filamentality page!!

on the Internet• You are also given a “Quick Look” at

your Hotlist• You can use the navigation menu to add

more links, edit links, or edit text if you don’t like what you see.



• We host your Hotlist on our server for free for at least 12 months past the date it was built

• Your file can stay longer than 12 months if you login and update your page before it expires
