NEWS Notes from Here and There Felicitations go to Dr. Marshall Smulson, chairman of the endodontics department at Loyola University's den- tal school and recent recipient of the Truman W. Brophy Memorial Award for outstanding contributions as a dental educator.. Similar good wishes go to Dr. Carl W. Newton on his appointment as chairman of the endodontics depart- ment at the Indiana University dental school and to ACE Secretary Dr. Michael Heuer for his appointment as Dr, Michael A. Heuer. associate dean for academic affairs at Northwestern University Dental School . .A new award, the Frank B. Trice Award in endodontics, and a fund raising campaign for it has been started by the Dental Branch Alumni Association at the University of Texas. The award is named for AAE's 1976-1977 President and cur- rent ABE director who taught at the University of Texas at Houston and was associate dean from 1979 until his retire- ment last year...Dr. Mahmoud Torabinejad spoke on immunology in endodontics in Montreal for the Cana- dian endodontic association during Les Journess Dentaires Du Quebec in June 1983. Earlier in the year, he lectured on endodontic-periodontic interrelation- ships at the Universities of Tehran and Shirazy in Iran. AAE's new Study Club Chairman Dr. Samuel O. Dorn recently visited Dr. Yury Kuttler's Instituto de Endo-Metaendodoncia in Mexico City and participated in a literature review and case presentation with students there. AAE member Dr. Seymour Oliet (center), chairman of the endodontic division at the Albert Einstein Medical Center's Northern Division, recently presented certifi- cates of participation for research and teaching to graduating endodontic resi- dents, AAE members Dr. Louis H. Berman (left) and Dr. Steven B. Fleishman (right). A Fond adieu to... Ms. A. Claudia Argyris, former admin- strative secretary to the ABE and mem- bership secretary, who started at the Association in June 1981 and helped to establish the Board at the Central Of- rice in Chicago. Ms. Argyris returned to graduate 405 school in January 1983 and had been a part-time employee since then working on various projects. In early February, Ms. Letty Catrambone became the ad- ministrative secretary for the ABE and E & M Foundation. Ms. Argyris left the AAE in August to move to New Orleans.
