Four Seasons Lesson Plan
OverviewThis activity is designed as a follow on from playing the Four Seasons online activity. Students are given a range of pictures cut out from magazines and asked to make a poster by sorting them according to the correct season. They can then label their pictures to provide more information. The activity can be carried out during the free-flow session and should take children approximately 10 - 15 minutes to complete. Then students can then show their posters to the rest of the class by way of a plenary. This will give additional opportunities to assess understanding.
Lesson Structure0-10 minutes Ask the children what they found out about summer and winter by playing the activity and
compile a list of things that happen in both seasons.
10-15 minutes Explain to the children that you have some pictures associated with either summer or winter and you would like them to sort them according to the correct season. Model the activity for them by taking a piece of A3 paper and asking children to select a picture and to explain where they should stick it on the paper. Elicit why they think it should be placed there. Repeat until the children have a clear understanding of the task.
Free-flow
activity
Explain to the children that the activity will be laid out for them and you would like them to make their own summer and winter poster. While they are working, ask them questions to elicit their understanding by way of formative assessment. Encourage them to annotate their pictures.
Plenary Once children have had an opportunity to make their posters, draw the class back together and ask them to show their posters to their peers. Discuss why and where they have stuck their pictures.
