Hygiene: : Its larger and deeper form and its four infra-red sensors (at the top and on the sides) enable its use without any contact. It is also accessible to children and the physically challenged.

Economical : Thanks to the combination of vibrated air and the recuperation of heat below 37°C, the drying process is possible in a few seconds, thus leading to an additional economy in power consumption , which had already been reduced (1000W+650W heating). When compared to paper or paper towel dispensers, a significant saving on man-power and storage space are to be taken into consideration.

Comparisons with other Hand Dryers: Since 1992, the inventor of the Air Vibrated Hand dryer has been improving the model. The old and new generation Jet Towel for me is to be used as reference. Since many years, resellers of Paper, Bins, Hygiene products and others try to sell hand dryers to have a part of benefits of this new wave. Using their brand names, they resell hand dryers only thinking of the benefit and without having any experience of that market. The result is that they propose mostly very low quality products with a good design at oversized prices and low to bad performances.

Electrical Hand Dryer or Towels ??? Pay Attention to Misinformation and wars of interest!

If washing your hands is a message hammered home by all, the necessity to dry your hands properly must be emphasised, too. In fact, the use of electrical hand dryers in public places, deemed more economical, would dangerously increase the possibility of the spread of bacteria. « The World Health Organization (WHO), and more specifically in France, the leading actors of the health sector give the utmost importance to the disinfection of the hands prior to any contact with the patients.. This sounds very normal to all. However, we are exposed to bacteria in our workplace, in the public means of transportation, in shops, in different venues and at home on a daily basis, as well.» The Paper towels would seem to be the best solution to get rid of the bacteria. Several researches prove it : A research conducted with the initiative of Dyson Limited and presented in the 17th European Congress of of Clinical Microbiology and Infectuous Diseases in Munich (Germany) reached the following conclusions : « The systematic use of paper towels give better results than the other methods of drying, especially as far as the residue of bacteria on the palms and fingertips are concerned. This proves that the bacteria nested on the surface of the skin are eliminated with the moisture when tissues are used. (Blackmore 1989; Redway 1994; Taylor and Al 2000). Therefore, it appears that the tissues eliminate the bacteria more effectively than conventional means of drying. ».

Unfortunately, a research conducted by Canadians has shown that the paper towels were contaminated - those made of recycled paper contain 100 to 1000 times more bacteria.

In other words, the Paper towels were contaminated during the manufacturing process when they came into contact with the machines. Certain substances , such as the filling agents used in the manufacturing of recycled paper favour this contamination.

Nevertheless, some claim that the drying of hands by using paper towels is the most hygienic method. Are you confused ? Is it pure chance that the above researches were commissioned either by large companies of the paper industry or by big manufacturers of hand dryers….

To sum up : It is in a humid environmet that the bacteria proliferate. Wet hands transmit 1000more bacteria and microbes than hand dryers. The air diffused by hand dryers ,which contains bacteria, is the same air as th air we inhale. Should we wear masks so as not to inhale these bacteria? Some models of Jet air hand dryers are equipped with HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) Filters, which filter 99,98% of the bacteria. Thus, they make up to a certain extent for the weaknesses of conventional hand dryers. However, are the filters changed regularly so as to avoid an opposite result? Dyson does not make any comments! In short, avoid the traditional Hand Dryers (with hot air) and the paper towels which have not been sterilized.

Hygiene or Environment ??? The ecological imprint of our methods of drying hands

Which method is more harmful to the environment? The researchers have analysed the life cycle of every system, from the moment they are manufactured to the moment they are destroyed -and through their use and distribution. Each method is evaluated on a scale from 1 (the weakest impact) to 7( the most important) on 6 criteria : • Global warming ; • Health ; • The quality of the ecosystem ; • the demand of energy ; • The consumption of water; • The space they take up

Conclusion : The tissues and the traditional hand dryers are the two types of hand drying that are the most harmful to the environment. They both generate 70% more CO² than hand dryers giving off cold air. As far as paper towelsissues are concerned, most of the impact is due to their manufacturing process .The packaging of the paper towels, the dispensers, the rubbish bins and the rubbish bags represent less than 10% of the environmental impact. As for the traditional hand dryers, most of the impact is due to their use as a result of a longer dry time and a higher voltage which contribute to the phenomenon of global warming.

Our Conclusions : The best way to dry hands .

The absence of trustworthy researches is the justification the Ministry of Health gives for not making any comments on the issue: « This debate is irrelevant, claims the General Health Administration. It is more than evident that a disposable clean towel is ideal. A hand dryer is what it is. We should not dream.There are financial restrictions and it is of the utmost importance not to make people think that they should not wash their hands in public places ».

the HEPA filter is regularly changed (especially in hospitals , kitchens, high risk areas …). • You should choose which one meets your needs best.

P.S. : Apart from the high risk areas, the HEPA filter is, in my opinion, a trend rather than a necessity.
