It was Saturday morning, the sun was shining, the birds were chirping, the

bees were buzzing, and the fl owers were blooming. “Finally!” Shouted FB as he

looked out his bedroom window. “Springtime had arrived!”

The sweet smell of honeysuckles tickled his nose as he stood thinking about

Granny Bear’s favorite day. “Granny Bear loved springtime!” He told the buzzing

bumble bee. And, every year she and Grandpa Bear plant fl owers on the fi rst day

of spring. He remembered.

Suddenly, a small tear dropped from his eyes. FB remembered Grandpa Bearwas no longer there to help. Grandpa Bear was now in heaven with God.

4 A Granny Goodness Day

At that very moment, the sad bear had a good idea.

FB wiped the tears from his eyes. He joyfully announced, “I will help Granny

Bear plant fl owers today! Surely, four hands are much faster than two!” He

giggled to himself.

“Yes, yes indeedy, a good idea!” He laughed as he hopped around the room

in his favorite brown bunny slippers.

Joy bubbled in his heart as he hurried to share his good idea with

Mother Bear.

FB shouted from the top of the stairs, “Mom! It’s the fi rst day of

spring!” He hopped down each step slowly. When he reached the bottom,

he jumped and both bunny slippers slapped the tiled fl oor. He looked at

Mother Bear and said, “Granny Bear will need help planting fl owers today!

Can I go help?” He pleaded.

Mother Bear was walking from the kitchen with a freshly baked apple

pie when she heard his usual crash landing. She sat aside her delicious de-

light and answered, “That’s a good idea FB. And I baked her favorite apple

pie. Will you give it to her for me?” She asked.

The excited bear replied, “Yes, yes indeedy, another good idea!” As he

hopped back up stairs to get dressed.

On the way to Granny Bear’s house, FB stopped by Glory Gardens to see

Oakey. Oakey was FB’s special friend who lived in the garden. As FB walked

up to the fruitful tree, the smell of freshly baked apples fi lled the air.

“Hello Oakey!” FB greeted his friend.

Oakey stooped to see the delicious delight.

“Where are you going with that pie?” The tall tree asked.

FB lifted the pie high for Oakey to get a closer look.

“I’m on my way to Granny Bear’s house.” He answered. “It’s her favorite

day—the fi rst day of spring. I’m helping her plant fl owers because Grandpa

Bear is not there.” He added. “And Mother Bear baked this apple pie for her

this morning.” He said as he waved it in front of Oakey’s eyes.
