The Donkey When fishe-s ftew and forests walked

And fiip grew upon thorn, Some moment when the moon wa.s blood ~n surely I was born:

With monstrous head aDd sickening ery

And ean like errant winca. Th~ devi1's walking parody

On all four-footed things. The tattered outlaw of the earth

Of aneient erooked will. Starve. 5eourge, deride me. 1 am dumb.

And palms before my feet! Gilbert K. Claatertoa

BONDS, from page .-qoestion would &.llow voten to. eXJ)!'"'eU their prefere:nee botlli for whether the city should borrow the money to ereate a community ·center and for which building should be renovated.

Citiutl C:O..•eata Keith Chernikoff agreed with

White that the proposed ordinance and referendum question would not yield a clear result. However, in place of White's amendment, Chemikoff suggesU:od that voters be given a choice of two ;3 million dollar bond ordinance~. one for each school.

Charles Hagelgans claimed that citizens who have strong feelings about which building should be used for a community center might feel betrayed if the bond referendum were to pass l>ut their choice of building did 1 ot prevail.

W eidenleld argued that there is no perfect bond question. If W hite"s motion were adopted, ~ease who favored a community center at North End mig-ht nev~ er have a chance to voW on their p1 eferred ehoice, sinc-e the iSI'IUt'

would be moot if the Center ~chool ordinance passed.

Roy Dial noted that CherniKutf's sugg"estion could result in tne defeat of community center 1uno.jng, even if a majority of voters favored it. For exampl~ 48 pereent of the voters coulc. vote for the North End iaau~. 4.:1 percent for the Center School ordinance and four percent against both. Despite this clear majority for a community center, no borrowing would be authoriZ-ed.

Other Coacerna Besides the wordine of the or

dinance, White had several other concerns. He said that there had

Hcnrever, Weidellfeld said that this issue had dominated coamcil'a diacua.sions for montba. -Putene noted that the city bad auent $23.000 for Coakley & Williams studies to get more aeeurate data than was available for the 1985 bond referendum. As a re.sult,. ~ said. the citi%ens know what they will be volin~ on. Isaacs agreed. noting that if there are any gaps in the information available, the:v will be brought up at the pubhe meeting_

White and Putens exprear.ed co.ncern that citizens who voted against the bond referendum would be permitted to select a preference for where the community eenter should be. How~ ever.
