A History Mystery! This appears to be an 18 th century signal cannon that would have been used to warn of danger, call for help or mark one’s location. It is ten inches long and was discovered about fifty years ago partially buried on a wooded hillside above Big Sewickley Creek. Could it have been left behind by one of General “Mad Anthony” Wayne’s troops on a training mission from nearby Legionville? Was it lost by an early survey crew? A history mystery!
