Campsre Building on the Withlacoochee Mr J A Freeman of Belleview who works on the Camp dam now being constructed was in town today and In talking to a Star reporter detailed- the following that will have more than passing interest to the readers He said the face wall is fully COO feet long with two wIngs one 1200 feet and the other a thousand feet The base of the earthen embankment is 40 feet and 20 feet at the top reinforc- ed ¬ with a board facing The stone or concrete wall Is 20 feet at the base and two feet at the top The dam wall will be 20 feet high with a race trough 40 feet wide The dam will back the waters almost up to Dunnellon and permit good sized boats to come to the Phosphate City There are fully 125 men employed and it will take a year to complete it In their efforts In sinking coffer dam in the rock bottom they found what at first was deemed a big spring welling up but later learn- ed ¬ it was a subterranean river so they just shut up Its mouth and went- on with the work They have their own electric light plant and the work goes on night and day The timber- for the dam is taken along the north bank of the river and floated over the brink of the dam and then hauled direct on the mill carriage The dam dam Is estimated by Engineer Leon ¬ ard of Wittvaukee who Is construct- Ing this formidable work that it will supply seven wheels each wheel rep ¬ resenting 1800 horsepower For the I present only five wheels will be in ¬ stalled The Camps will supply elec- tricity ¬ for any town or community for miles and miles around and eventually- will supply Ocala with light and all power needed for manufacturing pur ¬ poses at a price that wlll4argely pro ¬ mote these Interests The Camps have established a commissary for the convenience of their men of which Mr C E Graham formerly of Vir- ginIa ¬ but for a long time in the em- ploy ¬ of the Camps is manager It Is an immense institution larger than any store In Ocala and carries a fine line of goods that Dunnellon A spur runs to the dam from the Dunnellon and Hernando railroad to supply the demands for material in the construction wagon bridge has been constructed across the river below the dam for
