“A NEW ERA OF CROSS COLLABORATION IS EMERGING. HAS THERE EVER BEEN A BETTER

TIME TO BE A SCIENTIST?”

What lies ahead? The internet is still in its early stages, but how we use the new technology may form the way it grows and set the tone of the future. Therefore we are going on a road trip, to the birth place of the world wide web, to discover and uncover how the new technology and social media is being used today to push research to new limits and lay the ground for a new kind of learning regime.

We seek to know:What drives the creation of collaborative networks? How are we currently using new technology to conduct science and collaborate on research? What is the upside and downside of the potential that lies within these online tools?

The concept of the filmWhy are we making this film?

Digital practices are giving rise to new kinds of cultures. As we spend more and more time online, the ability to reflect on the processes the web facilitates, how it motivates us and changes us, is essential.

What we wish to do through this film is to raise an awareness of the catalysing power that these new web based tools have on society and us, and how it can and is being used to archive and build a game changing research and knowledge sharing culture.

How are we making this film?

What is this film?

This is a documentary film containing interviews with some of the worlds best experts and influential practitioners within the field of creating web based research, knowledge sharing and science cultures.

The film is an experiment in knowledge and research sharing and thereby funded as part of the research done in relation to the Ph.D. “On a journey into the DNA of Network Society” which Allan Alfred Birkegaard Hansted is writing as a book due jan 2015. See also http://networksociety.org/ for more information on the Ph.D.

1. part: What is the nature, founding culture & history of the Web?

2. part: What are constructive vs. destructive uses of the web?

3. part: How is a collaborative digital culture created and motivated?

4. part: What kind of networks produce innovation and new knowledge?

5. part: What is the power of these new digital tools, what kind of transformation do they enable?

6. part: Is scientific social networks the future of science?

We are creating this film in two ways- firstly in episodes based on the interviews with each person, and later all the interviews are cut together to create a film based on a “heros journey” in the use of the web!

The audience´s journey

Setting the scene

What is the nature of the web?

Where and why was it created?

What is its cultural/intentional foundation?

2

The challenge/ problem is presented

What kind of opportunities does the

web open up for in relation to science and

research and new innovation & knowledge

creation?

What pitfalls are there to using the web?

- ex. misleading info, dopamine fixes/addiction etc.

How do we use the web thoughtfully?

How to understand the process the web

facilitates?

The keys to solve the

challenge ispresented

The challenge

and battle is on

The challenge is

solved

The payoff is presented

How do we create a digital culture that produces vital

knowledge & collaboration?

What motivates people to collaborate and

knowledge share?

What kinds of networks are needed to create vital

knowledge and innovation?

Why is the composition of the network essential for innovative science results

and new knowledge creation?

What cases are currently using the web to create and enhance the solving of pressuring science and

research issues?

What is their uniqueness? Why do they work so

well?

Summing up how can the people use their time and the web to problem solve some of the issues they

find pressuring?

What is the impact and power of these new

practices and knowledge sharing cultures on the web- how is it affecting

people, society and changing the ground rules of science and business?

Why is it important that the power of

online collaboration is used thoughtfully?

The Visual Inspiration for the Interview
