RootsThe Water Molecules transport from the soil to

the root by the help of the root hairs which absorbs the water. Roots are the underground part of the plant, it can be called the anchor of the plants as it holds it down. The roots get the water from the soil and sends it to the stem.

SteleAt the centre of the root is the stele. This region

contains the conductive tissues (the xylem and phloem) surrounded by a layer of cells called the pericycle. The remainder of the stele is the vascular cambium, these cells are able to divide to form new xylem and phloem increasing the diameter of the root.

StomataLeaves of land plants are covered with a waxy

cuticle that prevents water loss and gas exchange. The stomatas at the leaf surface have guard cells that open and close the stomata to regulate the uptake of carbon dioxide and release of oxygen, as required for photosynthesis. They also serve to regulate water loss from transpiration. During the day, the stomata normally open up in response to sunlight, allowing for photosynthetic gas exchange, but also allowing for transpiration. At night, the stomatas normally close, preventing unnecessary water loss.

StemWhen the drop of water gets to the stem it

moves through narrow tubes which are called Xylem. As a result the drop of water will be moving forward. There is also the Phloem in the stem. The Phloem is responsible for the water movement through the stem. Finally the stem has something called Capillarity which helps with the process

LeavesAfter the stem the drop of water gets to the

end of our imaginary but useful journey, the leaf. The drop of water comes the midrib and vein of a leaf which is a part in a leaf of a plant. After the process finishes the water drop has to repeat the journey again.

In General…The long-distance transport of the water

molecule occurs first within the xylem cells of the root, then the xylem of the stem and branch, and then into the xylem of a leaf midrib and vein.
