T h e B e a c o n A lighthouse on the lake
Perry Crisp, Pastor July & August 2016
Dear Church Family,
What is your perfect summer day? Perhaps it’s when the sun is shining, an unex-pected cool breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, the fish are biting, and the lawn mower is broken! Or maybe it’s when there’s a four-day holiday weekend and your friends and family are all gathered together eating watermelon and watching fireworks.
Perfection isn’t always possible. We live in a world of disappointments, worries, issues, misunderstandings, rudeness, selfishness, hatred, violence, prejudice, and a long list of other “dirty-laundry” attitudes. Basically, this is a messed-up world filled with messed-up people, and we’re all occasional mess-makers.
Our souls need an unexpected cool breeze on a frequent basis. Worship gives us that cool breeze. I’m so thankful for our worship leaders at Lake Fork Baptist Church. David and Margie Allen and all who add their instrumental and vocal skills to lead us in worship are such a blessing. I’m also thankful for those who manage the sound system and multimedia. Those are not easy jobs and I’m grateful we have such amazing people moving the right buttons and clicking at the right times.
I’m even more thankful for the presence of the Holy Spirit when we worship. He puts the “cool” in the cool breeze. He is the refresher of our souls. No matter what kind of day or week or summer you’re having, please don’t neglect what your soul desperately needs. Come to God’s house, the lighthouse on the lake, and worship with us at Lake Fork Baptist Church!

Volunteer Builders
Our builders have been very busy lately with many different jobs. We helped with the room construction for the new freezer, did several jobs in the community and continued working at Morgan’s Mercy Man-sion in Winnsboro. We have been blessed with a good group with a will to serve. We meet on Tuesdays in the FLC and proceed from there. Come join us. No special skills re-quired. You’ll enjoy the fellowship.
Bro. George
Brotherhood Breakfast
Our last breakfast was a good time of fellowship and a great breakfast prepared by Marvin and his kitchen crew. Afterward we enjoyed Ron Harpole sharing his testimony with us. We will meet again the 4th Sat-urday of the month and hope you will join us. Bring a friend or neigh-bor and introduce them to LFBC.
In His Name, Bro. George
Spring cleaning of the library is done and thanks to all of you who made the book give-away a big success. Now we would like to invite you to come by and check out the newest additions to the library. We now have the DVDs War Room, Wood-lawn, Risen, and Captive - to name a few. We have also added several new books by some of your favorite authors, but you will need to come upstairs and visit the library to see what they are!
There are several computers that are available for public use locat-ed on the back wall of the library and they have all been upgraded recently. They’re ready for you to come in and check e-mail, go on the internet, or create and print out documents. If you need help, just let us know when you plan to come in and we can arrange for someone to assist you in getting started.
As always, we welcome all new volunteers. If you can volunteer a couple of hours a month, just call or send an e-mail to me. (The phone number and e-mail address are listed below.) We can arrange to train you on the library operations and show you around at your con-venience.

VaCation anyone?
Summer is upon us! Are you in a vacation frame of mind? Great! Once you have the summer plans nailed down why not think about a ‘mini’ vacation in October? Come join us at Beavers Bend State Park near Broken Bow, Oklahoma. Oc-tober 8th -12th is when we’ll make our way to the park for some R&R. Being Baptist, it probably won’t sur-prise you to know that we eat well while we are there! But, we also have a lot of fun. The casual, re-laxed atmosphere allows us to get to know our church family in a very personal way. Please consider join-ing us.
Here’s some ‘stuff’ that might help you decide if you are interested in joining us. There are usually about 100 in attendance. Some folks take their campers or motor homes. Others rent cabins or rooms at the Lodge. We rent the pavilion and
spend most of our time there. We eat our meals at the pavilion. (The food is prepared by Ken Stribley and a group of volunteers.) We play games at the pavilion. We also spend time visiting and getting to know other members of our church family. Some campers play golf, fish or hike. Others go sightseeing in the area surrounding the park. It’s pretty much your call as to what activities you engage in during the day.
After dinner each night we enjoy different events at the pavilion. While the committee hasn’t yet met to plan the activities it is safe to say that we’ll have a casual, religious type evening on Sunday. Monday will feature ‘home-grown entertain-ment’. Tuesday night will feature a more ‘professional’ entertainer…one that we actually pay to enter-tain us!
The cost to attend Beavers Bend will depend on whether you are renting space for your camper, renting a cabin or renting a room at the Lodge. Each camper pays $35 for food and entertainment. If you are interested in more specific information, please contact Greg Robinson, 903-473-9585 or Betty Stribley, 903-383-2161. You will have a great time!
