Our efforts to improve our Sunday experience at St. Isidore have recently focused on growing our liturgical ministries. It was with this in mindthatwesponsoredourMinistryExposonMay7andMay12.Wethank all the parishioners who joined us for the expo, and are considering joining one of our ministry teams. We are very happy with the success of the expos. We will continue to encourage more parishioners to come forth to serve. I was especially encouraged by the number of our young people who came forth to minster as altars servers! Our young people are giving us a great example of service and stewardship. This Solemnity of Pentecost marks the beginning of our SUNDAY NIGHTMASSat5:30PM.Wethankthosewhohavecomeforwardtohelp minister at this liturgy, and all who joined us. WEJUSTNEEDTO….. This morning Joyce was reading to me from a book “FastFoodGenocide”,byJoelFuhrman,M.D.Insomeinstances,therewasnothingnewtomeabouthowunhealthy“fastfood”is,and how it has been a major factor in America becoming one of the“fattest”nationsonearth.Whatwasnewtome, andhonestlyquite frightening was the fourth chapter in the book where Dr. FuhrmandescribedthehistoryofPELLAGRAinAmericaandaround the world. For centuries, pellagra was misdiagnosed as someformofbacteriainfectionorgeneticcondition.Eventually, whenpellagrawascorrectlyidentifiedasbeingcausedbyadietdeficiencyofNIACIN,aBvitamin, thefindingswerelargely discounted and neglected because it challenged the diagnosisof“establishedmedicaltheory”and(Ithinkthatthisis the most critical point) the idea that people are genetically inferior or superior to others. If the cause of pellagra, a vitamin deficiencythatcouldbepreventedbyintroducingmoredarkgreenvegetablesintothediet, hadn’tflowninthefaceof“vestedinterests”perhapstheviolenceandmayhemresultingfromtheeffects of pellagra could have been avoided. Iamnottryingtosuggestthatthe“vestedinterest”here was the Fast Food industry, in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s,therewasno“FastFoodIndustry”.The“vestedinterest”wasprimarilytheconceptthatpeopleweregeneticallypre-disposedtoviolentandantisocialbehaviors,mentaldeficienciesordisease,andtheonly“realcure”forsociety’sproblemwas“forcedsterilization”.TheproposalthatbysimplyintroducingaB vitamin, Niacin, into a diet could reduce the prison population and those in asylums threatened those industries that thrived on violence and mental disorders. The idea that people were not “geneticallypre-disposed”threatenedthevalidityofmandatorysterilization;“perfectsocieties”;or“masterraces”.Thescienceofgeneticsisarealandvalidscience.However,thereisadanger, as in every science, to allow one to become so deeply involved with their conclusion, that it becomes their religion. True science, as I have been informed by our son, never claims tohavethe“finalanswer”butareasonable(fornow)solution. A genuine concern is that some believe that people are“naturally”superiortoothers, andothersnaturally“inferior”.I do not argue against the validity of people having different talents, abilities, and capacities for learning. I vigorously reject though, the suggestion that any person is inferior to another. I am frightened by the popularity of the idea that any society canbemade“better”bymerelyriddingitselfof“undesirables”.AdolfHitlertrieditwithdisastroushumanconsequences.Iamfrightened by this same ideology becoming popular in America, among people in all Christian faiths. God has never called people tolivein“perfect”societies, buttoloveoneanotherperfectly. Eveninourobsessivetechnologydrivensociety, weseem to choose to ignore a universal reality of humanity, that in God’s heart there is an absolute equality of love. In God’s image thatissharedbyallhumanity, thereisonlyonesolution–Loveone another as I have loved you.

WWe’ve made it easy for you to do this through our website. Simply go to stisidore.church/festival and click on the volunteer link to view and sign up for a shift. Make sure to include your name, phone number and email address. Once we receive your volunteer choices, you will be sent an email confirmation.

The alternate way to volunteer is by a phone call. Call to schedule your work aCall to schedule your work area and date/time (586-336-9006).Please leave a message if nobody is available and your call will be returned as soon as possible.

Please help to make our parish festival a success with your time and talent.Thank you in advance!

STRAWBERRY PATCHThe Strawberry Festival cannot happen without the The Strawberry Festival cannot happen without the generous support of our parishioners.  If you’re new to the Strawberry Patch, it is similar to the Giving Tree. On each berry is listed an item needed for the Festival such as gift cards, paper products, pop or other non-perishable food item. You are invited to take one (or more if you wish), purchase the item, and retureturn it (with the berry included) to the red bins in the gathering space. The bins will be in place until the week before the festival when the gathering space is needed for the baskets. Please return gift cards to the office rather than the bins so they don’t get lost. These small items are a huge help to making the Festival a success.
