Dear SUMC members and friends,

Greetings in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ!

I wonder how you and your loved ones are doing in this troubled time. I hope and pray that

you and your family are safe and well. Due to the high spike of Covid-19 in our area, schools have closed and gone virtual. Our church followed suit with a good reason that Christians should set a good example of protecting others as well as ourselves.

From time to time, life has a way of throwing lemons at us. When that happens, we can either be bitter or better. It is our job to make sweet lemonade out of the sour lemons. St. Paul said,

During this time of social distancing, we still can stay connected through online church service, Zoom fellowship, phone calls and cards and it won’t be long until we meet again. In the

member here at Suamico UMC? Please call the church office (920) 434-1168 or Pastor Jerry (920) 373-3081 and

set up a time to chat.

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused us, as a church, to fall short on our Apportionment payments to the Wisconsin Conference. Our Apportionment payment is $2,240 per month. This payment is our portion of all of the Wisconsin United Methodist costs to minister beyond our doors and beyond our state boundaries. It always feels good to fulfill our intention of helping others, especially during this difficult time. SUMC is currently 4 months behind for the year 2020. Please consider an extra donation if able, to help us catch up.

~ Thank you for all of your generous support of our church

"Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God." - Isaiah 40:1 Reflections from Caring Ministry team leader

A month ago, when I was writing for the newsletter, we were holding in person services. Now we are not. Seems these days nothing stays the same for long. With the changing of seasons, one day is sunny and warm and the next is windy and rainy. There is however, one thing that never changes. Jesus. He is there through sun, wind, rain, joy, and sadness. Another thing that remains unchanged is that though the pandemic is keeping us apart, we are always united together in Christ.

If you have greeting cards you will not be using, please bring them to the church office for The Caring Ministry Team. All cards are welcome including blank note cards, birthday, get well and sympathy.

Zoom Fellowship Time – Watch your email for the link to the Zoom Fellowship Time on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. If you do not have email, but would like to join using your smart phone, contact Pastor Jerry. Join in and visit with your church family.

Your Caring Ministry Team prays that you are staying safe and well through the up and downs of life.

If you are in need of care from your church family, please reach out to Pastor Jerry at (920) 373-3081 or the church office (920) 434-1168 for a phone conversation or meet for a social distance visit. You may also go to the SUMC website, click on “INFORMATION” drop down and click on “Prayer Request” to send your confidential requests to the Caring Ministry team for phone calls, emails, prayers or socially distanced visits.

May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ. 2 Thes 3:5

“Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free; ’tis the gift to

come down where I ought to be” ~ Joseph Brackett

During the Covid-19 pandemic, most of us are living under conditions of enforced simplicity. There are fewer luxuries and entertainments to spend money on and for most of us, less traveling, shopping, and visiting. Although, some people find the forced confinement to be

stressful itself, most people are, all in all, under less of the kinds of stress they usually experience.

John Wesley, in his sermon, “The Use of Money” insists that simplicity is essential for the Godly use of money. If we earn all we can honestly, then we are to save all we can, meaning retain all we can, by not using it wastefully. Rather than spending on luxury foods and personal ornaments (home, fashion, etc.), says Wesley, we should “be content with what plain nature requires.” Nor, should we lead our children into an extravagant lifestyle.

Why, then are we saving? In order to serve God through: 1) supplying your own simple needs 2) and the needs of your family and household 3) giving your surplus to the “household of faith” and to other people for their simple needs.

We are not the proprietors of creation, but rather the stewards of it. So, when we are planning an expenditure, Wesley advises us to ask: 1) am I acting as a proprietor or a steward? 2) am I following Scripture? 3) can I offer this as a sacrifice to God, through Jesus Christ? 4) will this action be judged as righteous?

There are plenty of churches and people in need during the pandemic. This is a good time to get even better at God’s simplicity. As Wesley says in ending his sermon, “Give all ye have, as well as all ye are, a spiritual sacrifice to Him who withheld not from you his Son, his only Son.”

Youth Group is taking a ‘break’ until the corona virus numbers come back down

Youth Group kicked off the Fall Season with a pizza party and gathering in the Old Sanctuary, which is our new home base. The youth helped move furniture and get the space set up, followed by discussion on what to do when your dreams don’t match your reality.

The plan is to meet every other Wednesday night, but with the Coronavirus outbreak, Youth Group is on a short hiatus. Please call the church office to be added to the Youth Group email list so you can stay current with Youth Group news & happenings or if you need to need to be put in touch with a Youth Group leader to talk and/or help during this difficult time.

Youth Group is not accepting any donations for future rummage sales.

Booyah containers needed

Do you have extra containers? Containers needed

MUST be one-quart that will hold HOT liquid with

great. As Booyah sales return, many of these are

needed. If you have any, please bring them to the church office during open office hours or drop off outside Fellowship Hall doors in the outdoor collection tub.

Dear Friends,

The year 2020 has been a year of change that we will not soon forget. Shopping is different, eating out is different and church is different.

One thing not different is the ongoing expenses of our church’s operations. Some categories have changed, yes, but the ‘business’ of Church continues. As we begin our stewardship review for 2021, we are faced with new challenges. Our budget recruitment (letter with pledge card) is under way. Please prayerfully consider your response to that.

One way to enhance our digital church experience is “livestreaming” and presentation for clarity and variety, is to hire a technician to optimize the use of our new media equipment for which we received a matching grant to purchase. That position has a potential impact of $3,750 beyond our current budget.

Another way that livestreaming will help is to restart and recharge our music ministry! Music has/is important, and a major part of our worshiping at SUMC. To that end, a proposal has been made to again hire a choral/bell choir director. That position has a potential impact of possibly $6,750 over our current budgeting projection.

How can I, we, you, help? Someone (or more than someone) could consider “sponsoring” one or more of these positions. A ‘sponsorship’ would involve a commitment over and above one’s otherwise planned support for 2021. Even several partial “sponsorships” could help SUMC in this new and exciting way.

Anonymous sponsorship, if you wish, can be done by contacting the church office. These would be considered dedicated funds for the position intended. Another area of help and concern is for the Youth and Education Ministry. During this Covid-19 crisis, youth are looking for support and any “normalcy” that we could help provide (want to ‘sponsor’ a youth or two or more??).

Stewardship, both Spiritual and financial is important to me, and to you, my friends and family of Suamico United Methodist.

Respectfully; In His Service, The SUMC Finance Chairman

- BIG thank you to those who have been keeping regular with monthly givings.

- to the Finance Team members for faithfully attending meetings and providing

valuable input into our financial processes and decisions.

- to Pastor Jerry, for mowing most every week this summer AND for reseeding the area

on the south end of the building where the sod didn't take well. All your help was

greatly appreciated.

- to ‘the lady with the green thumb’ for replanting the shrubs that didn't survive and

for nurturing the new ones.

- to the men who keep the church’s lawn tractor in tip-top shape all summer. - to the Booyah Team for putting together a successful Drive-Thru Booyah Sunday ~ Next Drive-Thru

booyah is December 6th.

- to the singers and musicians who have provided special music for digital worship services.

- to the media team a HUGE HUGE thanks for all their time and efforts in putting together “Digital

Church” services week after week. The SUMC church family appreciates the dedication to ensure

there is “Digital Church”, available to everyone.

(and many many thanks in advance to all the snow shovelers who are eager to sign up to clear the

SUMC sidewalks and paths)

Please contact the church office and give a special “shout out of thanks” to someone you

would like to recognize.

UMW United Methodist Women

UMW continues to be on hiatus during the pandemic. But, that does not mean we are

not thinking of one another! A wave and a hello to UMW members and all women of

SUMC along with prayers for health and well being for all. We continue to hope for the

day we can meet regularly and in person again!

Although not in person, UMWomen continue to be active in many ways. The Wisconsin

Conference Annual Gathering of UMW (virtually) met Oct. 17 with the theme 'Walking

in the Light: United for Justice'. Worship and information together inspired participants

in ways to make good use of this fallow time.

The keynote speaker, spoke about, Justice for our Neighbor: Immigration. "For most," she

says, "Immigration is not a choice, but a decision of life." She offers some suggestions:

Read about the needs and issues facing immigrants. Pray. In addition, do what you

can. Being an advocate for justice can take many forms.

UMCOR and the Interfaith Immigration Coalition are two additional sources for learning

and doing more about immigration issues.

The conference closed with a song by Carrie Newcomer: 'You Can Do This Hard Thing".

It fits in so many ways! You might want to look it up!

UMW does many things All UM Women & friends of UMC are welcome
