Celebrating 50 Years of Ministry
(Mark your calendars today)
The year 2012 will bring St. John Lutheran Church to its 50th Anniversary. The Anniversary Com-mittee has been meeting and the year is shaping up to be a wonderful year long celebration of ministry at St. John. There will be five Special Worship Services during the year:
January 29th: 10:00 am We invite and will recognize all who have been Baptized at St. John. Worship followed by reception in Fellowship Hall.
April 15th: 10:00 am This will be the actual date of Anniversary. We hope to have one of the former Pastors of St. John as the guest preacher for the day. We will enjoy a covered dish meal after this worship service.
July 29th: 10:00 am This will be an outdoor service. Plans are that we will try to worship at Monks Chapel, the site of one of the original congregations that started St. John. You are invited to dress in clothing that would fit 1962. We will have a picnic lunch at the site. We invite all cou-ples who were married at St. John to be recognized this day.
September 30th: 10:00 am We will honor all Charter Members of the Congregation.
October 28th: 10:00 am Reformation Sunday, we will Confirm our 9th grade Confirmation class and invite anyone who has been confirmed at St. John to be in attendance to be recognized.
Plans are for an Octoberfest celebration to be held on Saturday, October 27th.
As you can see the committee has been busy planning. We are looking for pictures and other memorabilia having to do with the history of St. John. You will be hearing more information as these dates get nearer, but please put them in your calendar. If you know anyone who was bap-tized, married, or is a charter member please invite them to the appropriate Sunday.

Church Secretary’s Corner
I would like to take this time to thank all of my very dedicated volunteers—my bulletin folders (Richard and Helen Findley, Charles and Louise Sansing, and Martha Walker), and all of the stewardship volunteers who make Sunday worship go so smoothly
each week. Many thanks—I couldn’t do what I do without your help! Joan
Secret Pal Luncheon
Sunday December 4th is the big reveal—we will have a luncheon at 12:30, following the
11:00 worship service. Secret Pals from 2011 will be revealed as gifts are ex-
changed. Then we will draw names for 2012 .Secret Pals. Please bring a dish to
share, your gift for your Secret Pal, and gloves or mittens, scarves, and hats to
donate to EFiA.
Preschool News
We appreciate the people who regularly buy gift cards and load their Kroger cards, It is such and easy way to
help support the preschool without spending an extra dime!
Do you buy groceries? Then you can help! We are enrolled in both the “Food City Community Cash” and
“Kroger Cares” programs. Each program works differently, but both will benefit the preschool. Gift cards
are available in the narthex after services or at the preschool during the week. See Ms.Mel or Mrs.
Meacham. You can pay with cash or a check.
1. Food City: We will have gift cards available in $50 and $100 denominations. You can purchase gift
cards to use for your weekly shopping, as well as for gifts.
2. Kroger: Gift cards are sold for $5 each. The card is “reloaded’ each time you shop for whatever
amount you wish. Instructions are given with the card purchase. The $5 is redeemable for groceries.
For both programs, the preschool receives $5.00 for every $100.00 you spend on groceries. We would appre-
ciate your support. Thank you!

We are a community of believers, gathered by the Spirit, washed in Baptism, marked with the cross of Christ, nourished by Word and Sacrament, called to respond to God's gifts of grace, and set apart as disciples of Jesus Christ for a life of learning, witness, and service.
