A Message from the Pastor ~ Un Mensaje del Párroco Todos
queremos ser bendecidos y favorecidos por Dios; pero, ¿con qué
frecuencia buscamos la bendición y el favor de Dios de acuerdo con
NUESTRA voluntad y NUESTRO tiempo? Durante la temporada navideña
meditamos en el misterio de Dios hecho hombre para habitar entre
nosotros y dándonos todo lo que necesitamos para lograr nuestra
recompensa en el cielo. Dios no viene al mundo simplemente para
bendecirnos, vino a transformar-nos, marcándonos como suyos. Nunca
debemos olvidar que Jesús nació en Belén para liberarnos del pecado
y la muerte y para establecer la Iglesia Católica. Es en la vida
sacramental de la iglesia donde experimentamos el poder
transformador de Dios. Un sacramento, tal como lo define el
Catecismo de la Iglesia, es “un signo eficaz de la gracia,
instituido por Cristo y confiado a la Iglesia, por el cual se nos
dispensa la vida divina por la obra del Espíritu Santo”. Sabemos
bien que los tres sacramentos de iniciación son el Bautismo, la
Primera Comunión y la Confirmación. Estos sacramentos son vitales
para fortalecernos y transformarnos. El bautismo es el primer
sacramento de iniciación y es la puerta que nos permite recibir los
demás sacramentos. Por tanto, el sacramento del Bautismo es VI-TAL.
Muchos padres católicos a menudo no quieren bautizar a sus hijos
hasta más tarde en la vida por varias razones. Algunos desean
"presentar" a sus hijos en la iglesia con el bautismo reservado
para una fecha mas adelante. Esto no es espiritualmente saludable
para los niño ni la familia. En el sacramento del Bautismo somos
limpiados del pecado original, recibidos como miembros de la
Iglesia Católica, compartimos en la muerte y resurrección de
Cristo, incorporados al cuerpo de Cristo, dados el derecho y la
responsabilidad de adorar a Dios, recibimos el don de la gracia y
el don del Espíritu Santo, y somos literalmente MARCADOS por Dios
como suyos. ¿Por qué queríamos “esperar” bautizar a nuestros hijos?
El bautismo debe llevarse a cabo lo antes posible después del
nacimiento de un niño para que puedan, lo antes posible, disfrutar
del poder transformador de Dios que literalmente entrará en ellos.
El bautismo nos abre las puertas del cielo, y con la gracia que
viene de la recepción frecuente de los sacramentos, como la
Reconciliación y la Eucaristía, se nos da la fuerza para vivir
nuestra vida de acuerdo con la santa voluntad de Dios para que al
final de nuestro viaje terrenal podemos caminar a través de esas
puertas que se nos abrieron en nuestro Bautismo. Hoy, al celebrar
el Bautismo de nuestro Señor, meditamos en cómo Jesús no necesitaba
ser bautizado; pero fue bautizado por Juan en el río Jordán para
mostrar solidaridad con sus hermanos y hermanas. Este acto de
humildad nos muestra su deseo de estar íntimamente presente con y
en nosotros. Jesús logra esta intimidad con nosotros cuando
recibimos los sacramentos. ¡No espere para disfrutar la intimidad
con Dios!
We all want to be blessed and favored by God; but how often do
we seek God’s blessing and favor according to OUR will and OUR
timeline? During the Christmas season we meditate on the mystery of
God becoming man to dwell among us and equip us with all that we
need in order to achieve our reward in heaven. God does not come to
the world merely to bless us, he came to transform us, marking us,
as his own. We should never forget that Jesus was born in Bethlehem
to free us from sin and death and to establish the Catholic Church.
It is in the sacramental life of the church where we experience the
transforming power of God. A sacrament, as defined by the Catechism
of the Church is, “An efficacious sign of grace, instituted by
Christ and entrusted to the church, by which divine life is
dis-pensed to us through the work of the Holy Spirit.”
We know well that the three sacraments of initiation are
Baptism, First Holy Communion and Confirmation. These sacraments
are vital in strengthening and transform-ing us. Baptism is the
first sacrament of initiation and is the doorway to allow us to
receive the other sacraments. There-fore, the sacrament of Baptism
is VITAL. Many Catholic parents often choose not to baptize their
children until later in life for various reasons. Some wish to
“present” their chil-dren in the church with Baptism reserved for a
later undis-closed date. This is not spiritually healthy for the
child or the family.
In the sacrament of Baptism we are cleansed of original sin,
welcomed as members of the Catholic Church, share in the death and
resurrection of Christ, incorporated into the body of Christ, given
the right and responsibility to worship God, given the gift of
grace and the gift of the Holy Spirit, and we are literally MARKED
by God as his own. Why would we ever want to “wait” to have our
children baptized? Baptism should take place as soon as possible
af-ter a child’s birth so that they can, as soon as possible, enjoy
the transformative power of God that will literally enter into
them.
Baptism opens the gates of heaven unto us, and with the grace
that comes from the frequent reception of the sacraments such as
Reconciliation and the Eucharist we are given the strength to live
our lives in accordance with God’s Holy will so that at the end of
our earthly journey we may walk through those doors which were
opened for us at our Baptism.
Today as we celebrate the Baptism of our Lord we meditate on how
Jesus did not need to be baptized; but was baptized by John in the
river Jordan to show solidarity with his brothers and sisters. This
humble act shows his desire to be intimately present with and in
us. Jesus achieves this inti-macy with us when we receive the
sacraments. Don’t wait to enjoy intimacy with God!

birth certificate. • God parents MUST be married in the Catholic
Church or
be single and MUST have received all three sacraments of

• God parents who are single CANNOT be people living with their
girlfriend or boyfriend or married civilly.
• It is preferable to have a God father and a God mother;
however, ONE god parent is permissible.
• Parents and God parents MUST participate in the Baptismal
class.

help the homeless. They will do a midnight run in areas in the
street where there are homeless people in need. Our seminarian,
Livinus, is asking for donations of ten socks and ten hoodies XXL
for the homeless. You may take your donations to the rectory during
office hours by Jan. 20
