December 2018 Time with Tom
The long wait is soon over the messiah is coming! Prophets and men of God had been
telling God’s people for generations to have patients that God would fulfill his promise
to Abraham. The one from whom all blessings come to all nations is about to appear
so try to wait. We try to tell our children to have patients all the time and they just can’t
wait. We are a society short on patients and long on demands. We know that soon af-
ter school started we would see Christmas sales and advertising all around us. And yet
we tell the children, not yet please just wait. We see Thanksgiving come and go and
we want to get to Christmas for the gifts to come, and the children ask us how much
longer do we have to wait? The children in scripture asked the same question; “how
much longer do we have to wait”. Do we know what we are waiting for? Is the long wait
going to be worth it? Who is the messiah we are waiting and what does that mean to
us anyway? The promised messiah, the one who will save us from the evil and torment
we live with everyday has to come soon. John’s gospel the 4th chapter: 5The woman
said to him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (who is called Christ). "When he comes,
he will proclaim all things to us." 26Jesus said to her, "I am he, the one who is speaking
to you. Are you telling me the messiah has already come? If so how can it be, I am still
dealing with the bullies of the world, and people still die and life is still difficult. I thought
the messiah would end all suffering and life would be good for everyone? Even Martha
was waiting for the messiah and said so to Jesus according to John 11: 25Jesus said to
her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they
die, will live, 26and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you be-
lieve this?" 27She said to him, "Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son
of God, the one coming into the world." Yes the messiah has come but he said the day
would come when we will be with him and the father in the great mansion of the father.
That is where we will live with Jesus and all who believe. John 14: Do not let your
hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. 2In my Father's house there are
many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a
place for you? 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take
you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. The long wait is over as far
as knowing whom the messiah is but we still wait for the day we will all be together
with the father and Jesus. As we wait, knowing what our father has done for us, we will
go tell everyone by our actions, our father in heaven loves them. We will do whatever it
takes for all nations to see the blessings of God. We will tell the children to wait for
Christmas day to celebrate on that day with gifts as a reminder of the gift God gave to
us. The grace of God came in the form of a baby who would grow to one day give his
life for us so we can live with him eternally. That is what we are now waiting for. As we
wait go and do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with your God. He loved us first,
so we could go and love others. The wait is over but we still wait. Call on God while
you wait and go baptizing; making disciples of all people in the name of the Father, †
the Son and the Holy Spirit amen.
Live in Peace and the God of Love and Peace will be with you! 2nd Cor. 13:11. Pastor Tom Evenson

Thanksgiving Eve the Gathered Group (made up of recent confirmands and any post confirmed people) and
confirmation students met at Threads of Hope, here in Litchfield.
Recently, Pastor Tom has shared about being the “gathered” and “scattered” church, and as we think about being a
“gathered” and “scattered” Christian; “gathered” being the time we spend together gathered together here at First
Lutheran. The time we need to refuel and recharge as we are preparing to go out into the world to be the “scattered”
church as ministers doing our ministry. We decided with the holiday season right around the corner to take our
ministry outside of these walls to help others, we wanted to lend a hand and help to freshen up the store (Threads of
Hope) by vacuuming, organizing, rearranging, and doing anything we could to help out. You have heard the saying
many hands make light work, it also makes the work more enjoyable. Take a peak at some of the fun our young adults
and students had.

Youth Pages
Our youth traveled to Willmar on Saturday, November 17 and 18 with other youth from our Southwest Synod. This event was sponsored and planned by the Synod Lutheran Youth Organization in which we have members from our local community participating (Colby Christensen, Ellery Jones and Pastor Tom’s relative from Atwater, Teri Evenson).
The theme for this gathering was “Undeniably Known” focusing on 1st Corinthians 13:12, “For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.”
The kids had awesome speakers and music from our Southwestern Minnesota Synod Youth Band and Gathering Guest Artist, Rachel Kurtz. The kids were able to participate in nightlife that featured dancing, games, service projects, swimming, mass gatherings, worship, singing, spiritual growth, relationship building and hanging out.
We want to thank our fearless leaders, Theresa Hoff and Keith & Sabrara Evenson for taking time away from their families to be with our youth, building and growing in their relationships. Sarah

Thank you so much, everyone, for bringing in your Family Fare receipts to the Church office for the collection bin. These receipts are added together and helps our education program earn $1000 for every $150,000 worth of receipts turned in. NOTE: Please turn in your ENTIRE receipt! If you look at the receipt, you will notice it says Direct Your Dollars under the Total and Total Savings area on the receipt. It indicates in that area the total dollars earned on that receipt’s purchases—and that all needs to be turned in for us to get credit. Also note, receipts for prescriptions purchased are not eligible for the Direct Your Dollars program.
Thanks for all the receipts that have been turned in!

Women of the ELCA (WELCA)
WELCA Meeting, November 15, 2018
WELCA met at Zion Lutheran Church on November 15, 2018. Former Pastor Harvey Nelson and his wife Marie were the guest speakers. From June 16-26, they travelled with a group to
Palestine and Israel. Several of the places have built a church where they think that Jesus would have been. There is a 20’ wall between Palestine and Israel and everyone must go through a checkpoint to travel between the two areas.
One of the highlights of their trip was having communion on a boat on the Sea of Galilee. Vis-iting these countries was a step on their faith journey and they would recommend it to anyone!

United Community Action
Meeker County Holiday Project
The goal for the 42nd Annual Meeker County Holiday Project is to promote the holiday season. The hard-ships and/or special needs could be due to a loss of a job, high medical bills, unexpected expenses, weather related damage, or crop loss. The project also focuses
on distributing food baskets to the elderly.
To make this project a success, we need help from the community. Cash donations given are used to
purchase the needed items at local businesses located in Meeker County. Everything you give stays in
Meeker County. The donations will also be used to purchase food for the elderly baskets.
We are presently looking for churches, service clubs, businesses, and individuals who are interested in
making a cash contribution to the Holiday Project. We are also looking for sponsors for families for the
Holiday Project by personally shopping for gifts for the family(s)
If you would like more information—a flyer is posted on the board across from the church office or
call Heather Jeseritz 320-639-7911.
HOSPITALIZED?
Please remember to call the church Office or Pastor Tom if you or a loved one is hospitalized and you would like a call or a visit. We do not have access to patient lists and without your call we have no way of knowing if you are in the hospital. Due to the law the medical facilities are no longer able to provide that information. Thank you!
PRAYER SHAWLS
Prayer Shawls are available in the church office when needed for yourself or someone in need of comfort and prayers. Please help—if you know of someone who is in need of prayers and a shawl, stop by the office and pick one up!

Calling all boys and girls, ages 11-17! Scouts BSA is a character and leadership development program for boys and girls age 11-17, focusing on service to God, coun-
try, community and family. These values are instilled through outdoor activities, youth leadership, serving others and learning new skills. This year, Litchfield scouts went camping, canoeing, kayaking, snorkeling, sailing, swimming, fishing, climbing, rappelling, hiking, geocaching and skiing; they shot archery, solved escape rooms, cooked outdoors, earned merit badges, did service work and played ga-ga ball. What will you join the scouts in doing next year? Boys and girls interested in learning more are encouraged to attend a new scout and parent orientation meeting on Tuesday, 8 January at 6:00PM at First Lutheran Church. Boys may join Litchfield’s existing Boy Scout troop. With at least 5 interested girls, a new Scouts BSA troop will be formed for girls. Come be a part of this exciting new chapter in Litchfield’s scouting history! Questions? Contact Jesse at [email protected] or 320-905-1604.
