SOUNDHUNTERS is a special interactive documentary experience which aims to sample the world and set it to music. It's a playful tribute to a cultural remix that lays foundations for a proper language. A musical one.

Through augmented documentary films and playful tools SOUNDHUNTERS enables you to explore and listen to the world and to twist it. You'll be a viewer, a creator and a contributor, of a social and international music experience, all at once.

For many decades talented musicians hack the sounds of our daily lives in order to view the world with alternate ears. Political positioning, poetic hijacking, social thoughts, playful reinvention... Experiences are infinite.

With SOUNDHUNTERS it is not enough to just open our eyes to understand our world but it also needs us to use our ears- an innocuous act that can bring us to a completely new sensory experience.

4 interactive short films about the sonic adventures of 4 renowned musicians. Each film gave birth to a genuine music track. While watching the film, unlock the music track and collect the related sounds to reinvent this sonic trip.

2 contests will boost the experience. YOUR TRACK ON ARTE is a mean to air your track on the end credits of the TV doc on Arte and THE ZOOLOOK REVISITED ALBUM to be selected by Jean-Michel JARRE and be featured on a worldwide distributed album.

SOUNDHUNTERS - Interactive Films - 4 short interactive films about the creative adventures of 4 renowned musicians immersed in the heart of 4 megalopolis, looking for sounds and inspiration. Their encounters with urban minorities in Sao Paulo, Lagos, New York and Berlin lead to the creation of 4 unique musical compositions. At the end of each experience, the audience can create music with sounds captured by the artists in each city.

LUKE VIBERT Luke Vibert, one of the pioneers of UK’s electronic music scene, rediscovers New York City through a film experience paced by the words of poets and the melodies of musicians from around the world. A mean to express our shared common humanity.

DAEDELUS In Berlin, 19-year-old Tarik balances out his German-Turkish identities with his passion for boxing and transition to adulthood. Electronic musician Daedelus reflects on Tarik's world as he visits the German capital to create a song inspired by its cultural mix.

SIMONNE JONES While São Paulo continues to expand, the American ar tist Simonne Jones encounters Guarani Indians who struggle to keep their language, land and culture alive. At the heart of a city in mutation, Simonne captures the essence of these turmoils to put it into music.

MIKAEL SEIFU Mikael Seifu, an Ethiopian electronic music producer, goes deep into the most populous African city, Lagos. He tries to better understand the unifying role of Pidgin English, the city's unofficial lingua franca.

SOUNDHUNTERS - the movie

They hunt urban and natural landscapes searching for sounds. The world itself is their musical instrument. By using everyday objects and recording the familiar sounds that surround us, they transform our everyday environment into an original musical creation. The name they chose for themselves: soundhunters.

SOUNDHUNTERS is a musical documentary film that reveals, through the lens of a creative travelogue, the lives of “soundhunters”, or in other words, renowned musicians who have all decided to use sounds of the world as their primary source of sound (such as natural, mechanical, everyday o b j e c t s… ) . P i e r r e S c h ae f f e r, f a t h e r o f electroacoustic music, theorized in his “Treaty of Musical Objects” (1977) the idea that any object emitting a sound can be the basis for the creation of music. Following Schaeffer, many musical movements and numerous artists have, to this day, retained this philosophy of considering everything that surrounds us as a potential source of musical creation.

From there onwards, the door was wide open for sound hunters. Effervescent tablets, a leaf in the wind, a coffee being poured, a Finnish phoneme, absolutely everything becomes likely to be recorded, transformed, manipulated and reinvented within a musical context.

Thanks to an original staging, SOUNDHUNTERS offers spectators an encounter with multiple renowned artists from various generations and musical backgrounds, such as Matthew Herbert, Matmos, Chassol, Jean-Michel Jarre, Blixa Bargeld or Cosmo Sheldrake.

The most popular track - generated within the CREATE section of the SOUNDHUNTERS platform - will be aired as the soundtrack of the end credits of the 52’ SOUNDHUNTERS documentary film, September 19, 2015. Thanks to our easy-to-use and playful app, anyone can create music in a blink of an eye and be elected as the winner track!

#2 YOUR TRACK SELECTED BY JEAN-MICHEL JARRE FOR THE “ZOOLOOk REVISITED” DIGITAL ALBUM

The SOUNDHUNTERS project celebrates the use of sounds from our daily life to make creative music. This is also a tribute to the «Zoolook» album released in 1984 by Jean-Michel Jarre. More than 30 years later, we will offer the chance to all music creators to participate to the «Zoolook Revisited» album alongside 4 famous electronic musicians: Daedelus, Luke Vibert, Simonne Jones and Mikael Seifu.

6 lucky musician will be chosen by JEAN-MICHEL JARRE to be part of the compilation album “ZOOLOOK REVISITED” and get a publishing contract in due form!

In order to aim a “Pro” audience, we have developed in partnership with Native Instruments a professional Artist SoundKit to use in professional softwares and hardwares. We will also organised Soundhunter’s Collaborative Nights with french company “Ohmforce”.
