CONTENT ANDIMAGERY

Take a moment and imagine - 25, 30, 35 yearsfrom now, you are spending time with yourlifelong partner, as you reminisce over thememories of life.    And you think about yourwedding day and ask, “Remember how good thegarlic mashed potatoes with a side of lamb wasat our wedding?”   Truth be told, you probably won’t remember oreven give a darn about what food you had onyour wedding day.    But you will remember theimportant parts of your wedding and will be ableto grab your wedding album, plop on the couchtogether, and look through something you haveheld near and dear for decades.    Your album issomething that you would want to be saved ifyour house were on fire along with your safe, andany important documents - your album is one ofthose treasured and important documents. Here are a few elements that I wanted to puttogether and share as these elements aren’talways shared as “tips or suggestions”.    Being aprofessional photographer, I have come to see alot of things and wanted to share some thingsthat you may find valuable on your weddingday.  Enjoy!

Andy, you simply arethe BEST in thebusiness! Hands down.Katie W.

QUIET AND NEAT

The few days before and the morning of the wedding are stressful and finding a location where youcan have some quiet time and relax is essential.  This can be doubly stressful when you are crowdedwith eager-to-help friends and family and being overwhelmed and anxious are all natural feelings youwill have.  Take time to find a place that you can enjoy time with your hair and makeup artist, relax, and allow yourself some time to take a deep breath and enjoy the moment.    Finding that speciallocation with less crowds, keeps that area clean and less clutter, which helps with those special“getting ready” detail photos by your photographer.  Although they are essential, the boxes of snacks, plastic bins of Jimmy Johns sandwiches, water bottles laying around and large purses and bags withprotective dress plastics are not always the easiest to work around in the moment of the day orphotoshop out.

You may be thinking about “The Right One” asbeing the guy you are choosing to marry!  Howabout the “Right One” being yourphotographer?    Picking the right photographeris essential so you can ditch the “other” liststhat you have accumulated over the past fewmonths of planning.    One of the worst thingsanyone can do is hire a photographer basedupon price.    Bottom line is it will never workout.      You may be thinking you are getting areally great deal, but there is a reason theProfessional Photography Business shouldnever be based on price because of 6 littlewords – You Get What You Pay For. When youmeet with your photographer, it is totally okayto come prepared and show some inspirationof what you find appealing and to share someexamples of your style but putting together abig list is a bad idea.   Why you may ask?   Yourphotographer is focused on the list rather thanbeing creative, photographing what’s in front ofeyes and the candids you are truly looking for.The list is something the photographer issweating over and focused on, rather than thetrue reason you hired them to capture the dayas it happens. Choose wisely and give themfreedom to create and freeze time and trustthem on what you truly hired them to do.

THE RIGHT ONE

"Wow! I honestly couldn’t behappier with our choice tohave Andy capture our bigday! Chloe C.PS - If you have chosen wisely, please considerbanning smartphones, 11 inch iPads and otherphoto electronics during the ceremony as youwould prefer to see your guests faces in yourwedding photos, rather than smartphones orthose large tablets in front of guests faceswhom now you can’t recognize.

Dresses and shoes are expensive, but one certainly does not want to be fretting over them allday.  If you can be realistic with yourself, it will be easier to come to terms with it when your dressor shoes get a smudge or dirty. If you have hired the Right One as described in #2, this shouldcome with some unique locations and opportunities of a lifetime of memories, and of course, amazing wedding photographs. Those gorgeous creamy and dreamy sunlit field images of a newlywedded couple don’t happen with magic - or that rolling hill and a stunning horizon with thatgorgeous sunset as the couple is in silhouette on top of that hill.    This may have been anopportunity that we had to trudge through those tall grasses or reeds, or even a leg up over adirtied up weathered fence.  Be realistic about the dress and shoes up front - after the ceremonyis complete and you start moving about in areas you didn’t move before the ceremony, things aregoing to get dirty. You can always choose to have traditional local garden photos if you wish, but asthe day goes on, let go a little bit and enjoy the day. It’s much easier to do when you’re not soworried about getting beer or wine spilled on your dress, or those dirt marks on your shoes asyou are socializing with those outside having a blast in celebrations of your big day.

EVERYTHING OF THE LIGHT

Early ceremony times can cause “dappled light” causing those unattractive spots on one’s bodyor face.  Middle of the day photos or early afternoon can cause some unwanted shadows under theeyes causing more “raccoon-eyes” that are hard to patch up.Believe it or not, overcast days are a photographers dream because the clouds become a big“buffer” or soft box to soften that light to evenly light one’s body or face without hard shadowsor sunlight beams.

If you’re dreaming of the outdoor ceremony, something to consider is the weather.    Morespecifically, the sun.  Light can make or break your wedding photos.  Discussing further with yourprofessional photographer about ceremony times is essential.

Getting that right lighting is important and highly recommend to discuss more with theirprofessional photographer to help curate something beautiful on your wedding day.
