This fact impacts the community in so many detrimental ways, that it became necessary for our agency to readjust. Amidst the high number of new in-home medical and homecare services in our community, Willowstone decided that within the mental health shortage, could better use our limited resources toward our outpatient counseling services. Therefore, we closed our Homecare program after 50 years. This was a difficult decision, but the community needs indicated its necessity. Willowstone now can better focus on mental health, and utilize our services for community prevention and intervention with the two remaining branches of the organization: Healthy Families vis-its families of very young children in their homes to support bond-ing and development, and Willowstone Counseling offers therapy to individuals, families, and couples, and psycho-educational groups for adolescents who are in need of drug and alcohol inter-vention, and parents in need of supportive training. The Healthy Families Program over the past five years has served an average of 700 children/families annually with 5,235 hours of direct service. Home visitors report outcomes that ensure that participants have developmental child assessments, have a medi-cal home for their baby, have met immunization standards by age, show no reports of neglect and abuse, and assessment and inter-vention for maternal depression. Willowstone Counseling over the past five years has served an average of 652 people annually with 4,006 hours of direct service. Six licensed counselors measure improvements in mental health for both children and adults (decrease in symptoms, improved

functioning, ability to make better choices, etc.), substance abuse (decreased use, increased sobriety, improved relapse prevention, etc.), family relationships (better communication, improved parenting, decreased conflict, etc.), behavioral and school issues for youth, and other successful progress towards individual goals. Willowstone is proud to contribute to the many community con-versations and projects to address needs created by and sur-rounding mental health, including drug abuse, addiction, and recovery, trauma treatment and prevention, and being part of collaborative system of mental health providers to ensure the limited resources go as far as they can. We were honored in 2017 to become one of the recipients of Old National Bank’s 100 Men Who Cook fundraiser, and again to be a beneficiary of the 2017 Toast to Mental Health by Daybreak Rota-ry. And the long tradition of Penny Harvest with the cooperation of Lafayette School Corporation and Kroger/Payless Supermar-kets continued to help raise funds to keep counseling accessible to all. Finally the Cinderella Ball sold every one of their 300 seats to support mental health with an awesome father/daughter event. United Way of Greater Lafayette helps Willowstone Family Services have the resources to help get people, even the unin-sured and under insured, the mental health services they need. Each of our contributors helps the community in this way. We are grateful to be trusted with your donations. We promise to con-tinue to make every donation of time and money count by contin-uing to be responsive to the needs of each individual client, as well as our surrounding community. Together we can fill the gaps for a stronger future! Board of Directors President, Shane M. Weist

PROGRAMS PROGRAMS

HEALTHY FAMILIES

INSIGHT

Our Healthy Families program, which includes Baby Talk, is a free, voluntary home visitation program for parents and their babies for up to three years. It is designed to optimize child growth and development and encourage resilient, healthy families and healthy chil-dren. This is accomplished through a variety of services including child development evaluations, access to health care, and parent education. Family Services administers the Healthy Families Indiana program for Tippecanoe and Carroll Counties. Baby Talk is a free, voluntary service offered to every parent immediately following the birth of their newborn in any Tippecanoe County Hospital. We provide re-sources and materials that encourage new families to begin forming close bonds with their infants through reading to them.

39 students in grades 7-12 successfully complet-ed our Insight program. 94% of those participating in the program demonstrated an increase in their knowledge about the harm caused by alcohol and other drug use. At the end of the program, 94% reported that they had decreased or not used alcohol in the last 30 days;

100% reported that they had decreased or not used marijuana in the last 30 days; 92% reported that they had decreased or not used synthetic drugs (spice) in the last 30 days.

Insight is a free five week group early intervention program for youth in grades 7-12 who are using and/or abusing alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and other drugs. Participants examine how their choices affect their lives and those around them.
