9.00am - 9.15am Welcome and introductory remarks – Robyn Moore MC

9.15am -10.05am Managing for change - As a journalist, author, and speaker Brad Howarth has focused his attention on understanding technological change and the challenges and opportunities that arise from it. He takes complicated topics and future scenarios and presents them in a straightforward and compelling manner. In this presentation Brad will take delegates through various recommendations and strategies on how to manage for change. His presentations serve to highlight the changes that are possible while providing practical advice on how to negotiate the challenges and profiting from opportunities.

10.05am -10.45am Online trends and insights for clubs – Social Media, mobile devices and other digital trends that are transforming the marketing and community landscape in which Clubs operate. David Warwick, a director at Greenfields, is a former CEO of Komodo CMS, Melbourne GM of Viocorp and has spent over 12 years driving online strategy for clients including Westpac, Siemens, Bayer, Nintendo, Multimedia Victoria, Funds SA and hundreds of other clients. The presentation will provide insights into the forces at play as well as proven strategies for leveraging current platforms and communication approaches to improve your online activity.

10.45am - 11.15am Morning tea

11.15am - 11.50am The new standard – A project team of key regulators and industry representatives is looking to implement a restructured National Standard for poker machines and games in July 2015 to make the approval process in each state and territory more efficient and transparent. What are the current issues, what is the process to introduce the standards and what will this mean for gaming manufacturers, venues and regulators? Ross Ferrar, the Chief Executive Officer of the Gaming Technologies Association, will provide an overview of what lies ahead and what players and venues can expect from the new standard.

11.55am - 12.40pm Diversification: the pros and cons – As legislation has gradually tightened on gaming regulation clubs have looked to diversify their operations embracing projects ranging from apartment blocks to seniors living, from child minding centres to gymnasiums, some successful and others with marginal success. So what are the elements of a successful project and what are the potential pitfalls? Brett Boon a partner with Thomsons Lawyers and Greg Russell of Russell Corporate Advisory have represented several large clubs in going down the diversification path and will outline the pros and cons in embarking on such a strategy.

1.40pm - 2.30pm Embracing our new generation of veterans – As the war in Afghanistan draws to a close a new generation of servicemen and women are transitioning out of the Defence Force. In this session, the General Manager of RSL NSW Defence Care, Robyn Collins, RSL Victoria Younger Veterans Liaison Officer, Anne Pahl and Afghanistan veteran, Anthony Krupa examine their needs and what clubs and the RSL can do to assist them.

2.30pm -3.15pm Feast or Famine – The competition for diners has never been greater with a multitude of choice between restaurants and cafes available to tempt the tastebuds. James Hughes is the Director of Jamax Catering and has over 30 years experience in the hospitality industry from Melbourne’s fine dining scene through to the thriving Modern Australian cafe culture. He also has had experience in major events and club catering, including several venues in the RSL clubs Victorian network. In this session, James will give his views on the latest ‘eating out trends’ and provide his tips on the key elements of running a successful catering operation in order to meet the demands of your customers.

3.15pm - 4.15pm The Myths and the Truth About Business Success – One of the main reasons we have so many unhappy, poor performing people in business, is that they have been misled into believing the lies rather than the truth about what it takes to do consistently well in any area of business. John Lees, a former senior marketing and sales executive for Schwarzkopf, is one of the most versatile presenters in corporate Australia, providing an invaluable mix of business wisdom, effective strategy and humour. In this presentation John investigates some of the most popular and enduring myths about ‘success’ and then presents the truth about the real price of progress... covering attitudes, motivation, problem solving, and the promise that ‘service’ applies to everyone we encounter.

WEDNESDAY 30TH APRIL 2014 9.00am-9.40am Economic outlook – As the Coalition

Government prepares to deliver its first Budget what is it expected to deliver, what impact it will have on the economy and importantly what is the expectations for consumer spending, particularly on leisure and hospitality. In this session a senior analyst from BDO, which has an extensive client base in the club industry, will examine the major economic indicators and demographic research to predict some likely outcomes for clubs.

9.40am - 10.25am State of the nation – This panel of industry experts from New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria will examine the current hot topics for their states facing the club industry and whether there are some lessons for the other jurisdictions.

10.25am - 10.50am Morning tea 10.50am - 11.20am The Anzac Centenary – The

commemoration of the Centenary of Anzac activities gets underway later this year marking Australia’s first involvement in the Great War. With the war touching so many Australians, it will be a significant milestone in our history. In this session the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Centenary of Anzac and Special Minister of State, Senator the Hon Michael Ronaldson, will provide an overview of these activities from the new Federal Government’s perspective and how the RSL and clubs can support those initiatives.

11.30am - 12.15pm BIG Words, BIG People…BIG New Perpective for RSL Clubs – Robyn Moore changes peoples’ attitudes, behaviours…and their LIVES…and restores laughter, optimism and wellness in Australian businesses, organisations, families and communities. This closing presentation will not only wrap up the whole conference but also give you more access to generating the OUTCOMES you want for RSL Clubs… by altering and transforming your old perspective into NEW PERSPECTIVES!
