4. I will take care of my finances today by tracking expenses and creating a budget that is flexible and realistic.5. I will take care of my finances tomorrow by saving for my future.6. I will meet the credit obligations I have made on time and as agreed.7. I will continue my personal education about financial health, budgeting, credit, and personal debt.8. I will plan for periodic expenses, including the next holiday season.9. By good example, I will teach my children the importance of budgeting, saving, and the wise use of credit.10. If I am over-obliged, I will take the necessary steps to seek assistance.
Not an easy pledge to make, but so important based on the financial difficulties our neighbors, friends, family and perhaps ourselves, are facing today. An encouraging sign- at the time I read this website- over 7,800 people ‘Took the Pledge’. I encourage you to take it as well, www.financial-literacymonth.com.
WCCU’s Challenge:As you know, teaching thrift has always been a basis for the Credit Union movement. We pledge to develop existing programs, as well as develop new ways to help our members achieve financial success.
We pledge to continue to develop financial literacy in our local elementary schools. Our Save For America School Savings Program is currently in 8 elementary schools and over 894 students are actively learning the importance of saving, through Bank Days at school. We also have several employees who volunteer to teach through Junior Achievement.
We pledge to develop our High School Speaking programs, currently in 4 high schools, encompassing topics such as Credit, Checking & Savings, and Budgeting. This program supplements our sponsorship of the CeMark Financial Literacy program, currently used to teach personal finance in 5 area High Schools.
We pledge to enhance our website’s Educate Yourself tab, which brings members to a host of opportunities to further their know-ledge, including: links to financial literacy sites for students, parents, and businesses, Credit Counseling links, podcasts, and more.
Life is challenging and WCCU pledges to continue our commitment to help you to become or remain financially fit. Look for more details to follow about how we will help our members achieve financial success.
