Type to enter text The summer for Trinity Youth is a switch from the marathon of the year’s programming to a sprint through the Summer. We have packed 8 major events into only 12 weeks! Yes, we are crazy, and yes, we are tired! But it is all for a good reason and purpose—to help students take next steps in becoming wholehearted followers of Jesus. As we wind down the summer, we are now looking to gear back up for the school year. I’m really excited to see what will happen with the things that we have planned for this year— the biggest of which is a new focus for all of our teaching. This focus is based off of Andy Stanley’s book The Seven Checkpoints for Student Leaders: Seven Principles Every Teenager Needs to Know. The youth staff and I have read the book and are really excited to dive deeper into these focused teachings. Here’s a summary of each checkpoint: Checkpoint #1:Authentic Faith This principle focuses on helping students correctly understand what true faith is all about. Checkpoint #2: Spiritual Discipline This principle focuses on helping students develop healthy devotional lives. Checkpoint #3: Moral Boundaries This principle focuses on helping students establish clear moral limits by which they live. Checkpoint #4: Healthy Friendships This principle focuses on helping students build healthy relationships and avoid unhealthy ones. Checkpoint #5: Wise Choices This principle focuses on helping students apply godly wisdom to the choices they make. Checkpoint #6: Ultimate Authority This principle focuses on helping students recognize God’s ultimate authority and respect the earthly authorities He has placed over them. Checkpoint #7: Others First This principle focuses on helping students embrace the true nature of humility and service. The main idea is that we only have a few years to work with these students, so we want to focus in on the things we see as being most important for them to learn at this critical time in their lives. The goal is for a graduating senior to “know that they know that they know” these seven things so well that they will fully prepared for whatever God has next for them! Call me a hater. It’s true. I can handle it. I am a hater. And what I hate is seeing summer end. There’s only one thing that keeps me from plunging into despair at the end of summer. That one mercy, that one ray of light that helps me cope with shorter days and rigid schedules is called Fall. Autumn. Indian summer, the best time of year in the Walla Walla Valley. If any other season followed summer, it would be downright cruel. To replace sweet summer with bitter winter would overwhelm. To follow summer’s predictability with spring’s volatility would be defrauding. But fall—let’s just say that if summer has to go, at least it leaves us in good hands. And this year at Trinity, along with the warm days and sunny yellows and changing leaves, this fall is going to bring a great celebration of God’s faithfulness to Trinity. We’re going to be celebrating 60 years of ministry in this valley, a celebration we’re calling 60 Years in the City. Starting September 7, our Faith Family is going to look back to thank God for what He has done over these 6 decades, and look forward to ask Him for even more in the decades to come. It’s going to be a great time of challenge and inspiration. You won’t want to miss a single Sunday in September. So put it on your calendar, and make it a priority. In the meanwhile, enjoy your summer. And remember, whether you’re talking about summer or about Trinity, the only thing better than what’s now is what’s next. Connect To A Growth Group If you are interested in a Growth Group or you’ve got questions about joining a Growth Group, then Group Start is for you. Group Start is a fun, casual time on Sunday morning where you can meet other people who are thinking about a Growth Group, meet some of our Group leaders, and get all your questions answered. You have 4 opportunities to attend Group Start: September 21 during either of our morning service times, and September 28 during either of our morning service times (9am or 10:30am). We’ll have fun, we’ll have food, and hopefully, we’ll have you there, too! Sign up for one of the times on our website, trinitywallawalla.org. Trinity At The Park Join us at Fort Walla Walla on Sunday, September 14th at 1:00 pm. This is a great opportunity to get to know other people from our faith family. You don’t want to miss this event. 60 Years In The City Trinity is excited to celebrate 60 years of ministry this coming September. We have a lot of great things planned each Sunday beginning September 7th. We hope you’ll join in celebrating Trinity’s legacy and looking forward to the future. 60 Hours Of Prayer As part of our 60 Years In The City celebration, our church will be praying for 60 hours straight beginning on September 18 at 9:00 p.m. We are asking members of our faith family to sign up for at least 1 hour of the 60 hours to devote to praying for Trinity.
