    FROM THE ARTISTIC D IRECTOR

Good evening and welcome to our annual Christmas Concert. The Waukesha Choral Union is thrilled to present our annual

holiday concert once again at St. Luke’s in Waukesha and at St. Catherine’s in Oconomowoc. For each, we are very grateful for the use of the sanctuary for our performance today.

For many, the Christmas season is not really begun until they hear music of the holiday season. The music provides, in varied

settings and arrangements – joyous, festive, warm or reflective moods – to which we enjoy returning year after year. The first half of this year’s program will feature a cappella music, mostly of old – and much will be familiar. After intermission, we will perform some contemporary, though familiar, literature – and we will also ask you to join us in performing traditional Advent “sing-a-long” literature.

Our season-long theme of “How Can I Keep from Singing” will continue in April, as Handel’s “Messiah” will return us to Shattuck on Sunday, April 3. We will close our season in early May with ‘Folksongs of the Americas’ (folk music from North, Central and South America) – as well as Gabriel Faure’s masterpiece: Requiem.

I wish you and your family a healthy and happy holiday season. Thank you for your continuing support of the arts in your community. We cannot do what we do without you and your generous patronage. A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!

A rose has sprung up from a tender root,as the old ones sang to us, its lineage was from Jesse.and it has brought forth a flow’retin the middle of the cold winter, well at half the night.

The rosebud that I mean, of which Isaiah told,is Mary, the pure, who brought us the flow’ret. At God’s immortal word, she has borne a child, remaining a pure maid.

O Jesus, until the departure from this vale of tears, let your help guide usin the pleasures of your hall.In your Father’s Kingdomas we praise you forever; O God, that asks of us.

HOW YOU  CAN KEEP US  SINGING!

Those of us who use Amazon or Amazon Prime for online purchases can now utilize their “Smile” program

and designate Waukesha Choral Union as your non-profit group to receive “Smile” dollars!

    years!
