We are asked to watch, be ready. Ask yourself, “What should I watch and be ready for?” Ask yourself, “If Jesus called me now would I be ready?” Perhaps things there are things you would like to do yet… start today! Since May when I lost my mother it is clearer to me what it means to be ready. My mother told me two years ago when I went home to visit her, “I want to go.” Even as she was ready and prepared to answer the call to eternity, it did not happen when she wanted it, but the most important thing was she was ready to go. The gospel of today speaks of theft. Jesus uses this example of a thief coming at night to teach us something very important about our earthly life. You may be quite sure of this, that if the householder had known at what hour the burglar (thief) would come, he would not have let anyone break through the wall of his house. You too must stand ready, because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. Jesus tells us how we should stand ready. Today we celebrate the 19th Sunday in ordinary time. We are asked to watch, be ready.
Ask yourself, “What should I watch and be ready for?” Ask yourself, “If Jesus called me
now would I be ready?” Perhaps things there are things you would like to do yet… start

should stand ready. We should be “Like man waiting for his master to return from the

Hoy celebramos el domingo 19 en tiempo ordinario. Se nos pide mirar, estar preparados.
Pregúntate a ti mismo, “¿Qué debo mirar y estar preparado?” Pregúntate a ti mismo,
“Si Jesús me llamara ahora, ¿estaría listo?” Quizás hay cosas que te gustaría hacer ...
¡comienza hoy! Desde mayo, cuando perdí a mi madre, es más claro para mí lo que
significa estar listo. Mi madre me dijo hace dos años cuando fui a visitarla a su casa,
“Quiero ir.” Incluso cuando estaba lista y preparada para responder al llamado a la
eternidad, no sucedió cuando lo quería, pero lo más importante estaba ella lista para irse.

hacer: regar el jardín, limpiar la casa, volver a pintar la casa, etc.
Y desea que él / ella esté allí cuando regrese de sus vacaciones,
para ayudarlo con el equipaje y prepara tu comida. El asistente de
mantenimiento o ayuda a domicilio debe estar listo en cualquier
momento para darle la bienvenida. Este es el ejemplo que Jesús usó
para decirnos qué deberíamos hacer nosotros mismos. Deberíamos
estar listos en cualquier momento. ¿Pero listo para qué? ¿A la espera
de quién?
Debemos defender el regreso de nuestro Maestro, Jesús mismo. Jesús
vivió entre nosotros en esta tierra por varios años. Él vino a contarnos
acerca de Dios, nuestro Padre. Vino a enseñarnos
cómo vivir una vida que le agrade. Jesús nos ha mostrado el
camino al Padre. Él ha dicho que Él es el camino. Después de su
resurrección, Jesús mismo ha regresado al Padre. Pero vendrá de
nuevo. Él regresará al final de los tiempos. ¿Qué es ese “fin de los
tiempos?” Nadie lo sabe. Como el ladrón que viene de noche cuando
la gente no lo espera. El vigilante de nuestra parábola tuvo la suerte de
haber escuchado cuando los ladrones planeaban robar. La mayoría de
las veces, la gente no lo sabe. Entonces, es con nosotros. No sabemos
cuándo volverá Jesús. Debido a esto, debemos estar listos en todo
momento. Como mi madre que me dijo que estaba lista para irse, pero
el Señor le dio años extra.
Nadie sabe la hora de su propia muerte. Nuevamente, necesitamos
escuchar lo que Jesús nos está diciendo. Pero, ¿qué debo hacer
para estar listo? Al comienzo del evangelio de hoy, Jesús nos da la
respuesta. Él dice, “Mira que estás vestido para la acción y tienes tus
lámparas encendidas.” Solo una pregunta para reflexionar ... Cuando
trabajas en tus campos, ¿usas tu mejor ropa? ¡No! Usa ropa de trabajo
que probablemente sea vieja y gastada. Mantén tu buen traje para un
día de fiesta. Veo esto con Jim McCoy, jefe de los acomodadores en
OLGC y voluntario en nuestra despensa de alimentos. Cuando Jim
trabaja en la despensa de alimentos, siempre lo veo en jeans y tenis. El
domingo se pone hermosos trajes. Cuando llegué a OLGC por primera
vez, me referí a él como “el hombre del traje”, hasta que lo conocí
más. Un mecánico en un garaje, alguien cavando una pared o
construyendo un camino, todos ellos están “vestidos para la acción.”
Lo mismo es cierto para el soldado o policía en su uniforme, o la
enfermera en el hospital. Todos llevan ropa que muestra que están
listos para hacer su trabajo.
Como cristianos, ¿para qué tipo de “acción” debemos estar
preparados? ¿Tenemos que estar despiertos para ver lo que se espera
de nosotros en cualquier momento? Esta puede ser una palabra amable
para alguien que está desanimado. Un poco de tiempo para escuchar a
alguien con problemas. Una visita a una persona mayor que está sola.
Un poco de ayuda para una persona discapacitada que tiene problemas
para manejarse sola. Traer a una persona ciega a la iglesia que no
puede salir sola. Una sonrisa para la persona que es tímida. Un
apretón de manos con la persona que te ha lastimado.
Hoy, pregúntate, “¿Estoy listo? Si Jesús me dijera esta tarde que
mañana moriré, ¿estaría listo? Quizás hay cosas que te gustaría hacer
todavía … ¿Por qué no comenzar hoy?
(Continued from page 1) Some of you have home aid or somebody who helps you in the
house. Let us say you have been absent on your Summer
holidays; you have left your home aid or someone in charge of
the house. He/she should do certain things that you have said
should be done— water the garden, clean the house repaint the
house, etc. And you want him/her to be there when you come
back from your holidays, to help you with luggage and prepare
your food. The home aid or maintenance man should be ready
at any time to welcome you back. This is the example Jesus
has used to tell us what we ourselves should do. We should
stand ready at any time. But ready for what? Waiting for
whom?
We are to stand for the return of our Master—Jesus Himself.
Jesus lived among us on this earth for a number of years. He
came to tell us about God, our Father. He came to show us
how to live a life pleasing to Him. Jesus has shown us the
way to the Father. He has said that He is the Way. After His
resurrection, Jesus Himself has returned to the Father. But He
will come again. He will come back at the end of time. What is
that “the end of time?” Nobody knows. Like the thief coming
at night time when people do not expect it. The watchman in
our parable was lucky to have heard when the thieves were
planning to steal. Most times, people do not know. So, it is
with us. We do not know when Jesus will come back. Because
of this, we must be ready at all times. Like my mother who told
me she was ready to go, but the Lord gave her extra years.
No one knows the hour of his/her own death. Again, we need
to listen to what Jesus is telling us. But what must I do to stand
ready? At the beginning of today’s gospel, Jesus gives us the
answer. He says, “See that you are dressed for action and have
your lamps lit.” Just a question to reflect on…When you work
in your fields, do you wear your best clothes? No! You wear
some work clothes that are probably old and worn out. You
keep your nice suit for a feast day. I see this with Jim McCoy,
head of the Ushers at OLGC and a volunteer in our Food
Pantry. When Jim works in the Food Pantry, I always see him
in jeans and tennis shoes. On Sunday he puts on beautiful suits.
When I first came to OLGC, I referred to him as “the man in
the suit”— until I became further acquainted with him. A
mechanic in a garage, someone digging a wall or building a
road, all of them are “dressed for action.” The same is true of
the soldier or police man in their uniform, or the nurse in the
hospital. All are wearing clothes that show they are ready to do
their work.
As Christians, what kind of “action” are we to be prepared for?
We have to be awake to see whatever is expected from us at
any moment? This can be a kind word to someone who is
discouraged. A little time to listen to someone with problems.
A visit to an elderly person who is lonely. A little help to a
disabled person who has trouble managing on their own.
Bringing a blind person to church who cannot come out on
their own. A smile to the person who is shy. A hand shake with
the person who has hurt you.
Today, ask yourself, “Am I ready? If Jesus were to tell me this
evening that tomorrow I will die, would I be ready? Perhaps
there are things you would like to do yet…

For September 2019-2020
Our Lady of Good Counsel is now accepting registrations for the
2019/2020 program year beginning in September.
Registration forms can be picked up in the back of the church or
in the parish office. The complete registration form, a copy of the
Baptism certificate, a copy of the birth certificate along with the
registration fee are to be submitted at the time of registration.
Registrations are accepted during parish office hours. For more
information call the parish office at
718-447-1503.
Re-registration forms were sent home on 2/24/19.
First Day of Class is Sunday, September 15, 2019 for
Pre-K through the 6th grade. First Day of Class for RCIA Teens
and 7th Grade is Wednesday, September 18, 2019.

Nuestra Señora del Buen Consejo está aceptando inscripciones
para el programa 2019/2020 que comienza en Septiembre. Los
