CHRIST IS RISEN!

We pray you are well, safe and have had a blessed Pascha.

Your Parish Council Board Members have been working hard and are holding meetings

by video/conference every 2 weeks. We have initiated and are almost complete with our

phone calls to every family of our Parish, on record, asking of your wellbeing. As well,

we have recently launched a COVID-19 Relief Campaign to our Parishioners offering up

to $500.00 of food vouchers if you qualify with our criteria. (Please look for more

information in this Bulletin). We are mindful of these extraordinary times, the new levels

of stress and your concern in the months ahead. With God’s grace and love, we will get

through this difficult time and resume a better way of life. We ask of you to continue

your prayers at home until the government allows us to reopen our church and gather

together once again to worship our Lord God. We must all unite together and stay at

home as much as possible to avoid the spread of this pandemic to our family, friends

and people we do not know.

THE EPISTLE

Great is the Lord, and great is His power. Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good.

The Reading from the Acts of the Saintly and Pure Apostles. (5:12-20)

In those days, many signs and wonders were done among the people by the hands of

the Apostles. And they were all together in Solomon’s Portico. None of the rest dared

join them, but the people held them in high honor. And more than ever believers were

added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women, so that they even carried out

the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and pallets, that as Peter came by at

least his shadow might fall on some of them. The people also gathered from the towns

around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those afflicted with unclean spirits, and they

were all healed. But the high priest rose up and all who were with him, that is, the

party of the Sadducees, and filled with jealousy they arrested the Apostles and put

them in the common prison. But at night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors

and brought them out and said, “Go and stand in the temple and speak to the people

all the words of this Life.”

THE GOSPEL

The Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. John. (20:19-31)

On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the

Disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to

them, “Peace be with you.” When He had said this, He showed them His hands and

His side. Then the Disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them

again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” And when

He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If

you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are

retained.” Now Thomas, one of the Twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when

Jesus came. So the other Disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to

them, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and place my finger in the mark

of the nails, and place my hand in His side, I will not believe.” Eight days later, His

Disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. The doors were shut,

but Jesus came and stood among them, and said, “Peace be with you.” Then He said

to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see My hands; and put out your hand, and place

it in my side; do not be faithless, but believing.” Thomas answered Him, “My Lord and

my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen Me? Blessed

are those who have not seen and yet believe.” Now Jesus did many other signs in the

presence of the Disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that

you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may

have life in His Name.

La Lecture des Actes des Apôtres (5:12-20)

Beaucoup de miracles et de prodiges se faisaient au milieu du peuple par les mains des

apôtres. Ils se tenaient tous ensemble au portique de Salomon, et aucun des autres

n’osait se joindre à eux; mais le peuple les louait hautement. Le nombre de ceux qui

croyaient au Seigneur, hommes et femmes, augmentait de plus en plus, de sorte qu’on

apportait les malades dans les rues et qu’on les plaçait sur des lits et des couchettes, afin

que, lorsque Pierre passerait, son ombre au moins en couvre quelques-uns. La multitude

accourait aussi des villes voisines à Jérusalem, amenant des malades et des gens

tourmentés par des esprits impurs; et tous étaient guéris. Arrestation des apôtres:

Cependant le souverain sacrificateur et tous ceux qui étaient avec lui, savoir le parti des

sadducéens, se levèrent, remplis de jalousie, mirent la main sur les apôtres, et les

jetèrent dans la prison publique. Mais un ange du Seigneur, ayant ouvert pendant la nuit

les portes de la prison, les fit sortir, et leur dit: Allez, tenez-vous dans le temple, et

Le soir de ce jour, qui était le premier de la semaine, les portes du lieu où se trouvaient

les disciples étant fermées, à cause de la crainte qu’ils avaient des Juifs, Jésus vint, se

présenta au milieu d’eux, et leur dit: La paix soit avec vous! Et quand il eut dit cela, il leur

montra ses mains et son côté. Les disciples furent dans la joie en voyant le Seigneur.

Jésus leur dit de nouveau: La paix soit avec vous! Comme le Père m’a envoyé, moi aussi

je vous envoie. Après ces paroles, il souffla sur eux, et leur dit: Recevez le Saint-Esprit.

Ceux à qui vous pardonnerez les péchés, ils leur seront pardonnés; et ceux à qui vous

les retiendrez, ils leur seront retenus. Jésus apparaît aux disciples, Thomas étant

présent. Thomas, appelé Didyme, l’un des douze, n’était pas avec eux lorsque Jésus

vint. Les autres disciples lui dirent donc: Nous avons vu le Seigneur. Mais il leur dit: Si je

ne vois dans ses mains la marque des clous, et si je ne mets mon doigt dans la marque

des clous, et si je ne mets ma main dans son côté, je ne croirai point. Huit jours après,

les disciples de Jésus étaient de nouveau dans la maison, et Thomas se trouvait avec

eux. Jésus vint, les portes étant fermées, se présenta au milieu d’eux, et dit: La paix soit

avec vous! Puis il dit à Thomas: Avance ici ton doigt, et regarde mes mains; avance aussi

ta main, et mets-la dans mon côté; et ne sois pas incrédule, mais crois. Thomas lui

répondit: Mon Seigneur et mon Dieu! Jésus lui dit: Parce que tu m’as vu, tu as cru.

Heureux ceux qui n’ont pas vu, et qui ont cru! But de l’Evangile selon Jean. Jésus a fait

encore, en présence de ses disciples, beaucoup d’autres miracles, qui ne sont pas

décrits dans ce livre. Mais ces choses ont été écrites afin que vous croyiez que Jésus est

le Christ, le Fils de Dieu, et qu’en croyant vous ayez la vie en son nom.

THE SYNAXARION

On April 26 in the Holy Orthodox Church, we commemorate the Hieromartyr Basil,

bishop of Amasea with Venerable Glaphyra; Stephen, bishop of Perm; and Venerable

Ioanikios of Devitch in Serbia.

On this day, the second Sunday of Pascha, we inaugurate the celebration of Christ’s

Resurrection, and the occasion whereon the Holy Apostle Thomas touched the

Savior’s side.

Verses

If the seals of the Virgin’s womb and of the grave did not hinder Thee,

How could the seals of the doors hinder Thy might, O Savior?

This day is called New Sunday, Thomas Sunday or Anti-Pascha. The last term means

“in place of Pascha” because Thomas did not immediately hear of Christ’s

Resurrection and disbelieved it. We remember his doubt but do not repeat it. After this

Sunday, the Church dedicates Sunday to the Resurrection.

As the Disciples were gathered together on the Sunday of the Resurrection, Jesus

entered and greeted them in His usual way, saying, “Peace be unto you.” Then He

showed them His hands, feet and side. Jesus ate before His Disciples and reassured

them of His Resurrection. However, Thomas was not with them at that time, and

insisted upon seeing the Savior’s scars—the print of the nails in His hands and feet,

and the spear in His side—before he would believe that Jesus was risen. Eight days

later Christ appeared again to the Disciples, this time with Thomas present. The

Master told Thomas to see and feel. Then Thomas immediately cried out, “My Lord

and my God!” But Jesus tells His Disciples, “Blessed are those who have not seen and

yet believe.” This event also clearly illustrates the human and divine Natures of Christ.

By the intercessions of Thine Apostle Thomas, O Christ our God, have mercy on us.

Amen.

Nous espérons que vous êtes sains et saufs et que vous suivez les directives gouvernementales, en vue de réduire la propagation de ce nouveau virus.

Nous sommes conscients que nos gouvernements fourniront des prestations d'urgence à tous les Canadiens. Nous voulons toutefois que nos fidèles paroissiens sachent que leur Église est là pour leur donner un coup de pouce, s'ils nécessitent une aide additionnelle. Nous sommes prêts à offrir des bons alimentaires allant jusqu'à 500 $, selon le nombre de personnes dans votre ménage et selon les besoins urgents occasionnés par la pandémie.

Le Comité sur le fonds de secours établira des critères qui visent à aider les individus et les familles. Il va sans dire que tous les renseignements demeureront confidentiels.

Seven Years Since the Kidnapping of the Bishops of Aleppo

Beloved Brethren and Spiritual Children Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!

Brothers, we address you with the Pascha greeting, sharing your prayers in your home

corners and bending with you the knees of the heart before Christ, who was crucified for

our sake, who resurrected from the dead and made us resurrect by His divine Light, wiping

away from souls the dust of bitter times and the ashes of desolation and despair. However,

the radiance of Pascha stands incomplete due to the sorrowful case of our two brothers,

the Bishops of Aleppo, Metropolitans Paul Yazigi and Youhanna Ibrahim, kidnapped since

April 22, 2013. Today, we address you heart to heart and we address the whole world as

well, to say that the Christians of this East, along with its other groups, are still paying with

their lives and their fate the taxes to terrorism and violence: displacement, kidnapping,

murder, and many a tribulation. Despite all this, they remain faithful to their pledge of love

for Jesus Christ, as the Lord Who redeemed them on the Cross and implanted them in this

East two thousand years ago, to carry out the joy of his Gospel.



From the moment of the kidnapping to this day, the thousands of attempts and tons of efforts

to obtain any information on the fate of the two bishops have remained fruitless. All this amid

stacks of data, clues, analyses and inquiries that often complicate and entangle

perspectives.

2557 days have passed since, and we have never spared the least effort to bring this cause

to a happy ending, and ultimately to the most desired release of the two bishops, when we

shall have them among us once more. We have not spared any local, regional, or even

international doors to knock, asking governments, organizations, political influences and

powerful personalities to enlist this case on the multiple global platforms. This, among so

many other efforts. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who provided help and

promises, offering their efforts and contributions on the humanitarian, media, diplomatic,

security or political levels, whether on the official or personal levels. The role of these people

shed a light of hope in the black sorrowful night, while the negligence and silence of the

international community had overwhelmed this significant humanitarian and crucial cause,

undermining any attempt to find solutions.

Today, having set before our eyes the image of the two bishops, our brothers who are in

constant prayer for all of us, we ask all the faithful, wherever they are, to pray for them this

particular week. We ask them to prayer for the two bishops and for every kidnapped,

missing, and displaced person, for any person who was trapped in dire situation, but then

found in the Cross of Christ hope and consolation, and was strengthened by His glorious and

victorious Resurrection.

The human being in this East is of no lesser value than other humans. This present

pandemic that has been ravaging the globe- may God relive us from it-, is a clear proof that,

in all circumstances, above any considerations of race, religion, or nation, we are all brothers

in humanity, all on the same boat in this East and the whole world.

If only humans could be aware of this. If only the politicians and those who deal with world

affairs could realize that human beings are made of the same nature and share the same

dignity, regardless of their differences in country, homeland, language, civilization and

religion. Despite its bitterness, the epidemic came to say that we share a common existence

and one human brotherhood in this wide world. If only this was crystal clear to the eyes of

the heart and the perception of those who violate their brother’s dignity, unaware that this

derision will be turned against them and that their own dignity will be demeaned in the end.

First and foremost, we all ought to stand for the true human dignity; we must be aware that

our fellow human being’s dignity, life and existence, are part of our own heart, existence and

being.



As Christians of the Levant, we are deeply rooted since the times of old. Our roots will

never wither. Out of these roots stems the great oasis that is the Christian Antiochian

presence in the East and in all the world, an oasis flourishing and fragrant with the Chris-

tian witness to the Most Glorified Lord Jesus Christ and with love for the neighbor from all

walks of life. History has been teaching us all the way that we do not need protection from

anyone, neither do we seek anyone’s protection. We are an original component of this

East with all its meanders and irradiations. Considering our role, the logic of minority ver-

sus majority falls apart and is replaced by the logic of meeting and dialogue as well

as the pioneer role lead by Christians and others. We are not and will never be a card to

be played by anyone. We are rather a message of existence and authenticity, a bridge of

communication and encounter between the East and the West, between Christianity and

other religions.

We pray today for our two bishop brothers and for every kidnapped person, bearing in

mind that we will spare no effort to advocate for this cause and bring it to the desired

outcome, much awaited by every Christian heart, every descendant of the Levant, and

every well- intentioned person. Saying this, we confirm that the path of the Cross ended

by a dawn of Resurrection.

Today we pray to Jesus Christ, the Lord of the Resurrection and the Master of Life, may

He roll the tombstone by His Cross and delight our eyes with the Light of the

Resurrection. We pray for the peace of the world suffering from the epidemic. We pray for

this East in all its countries, which seeks the dawn of Resurrection from the Golgotha of

the Cross. We pray for our children in Aleppo, to whom we particularly extend the peace

of Pascha, asking the Lord of the Resurrection to revive hope in their hearts and ours.

With you, brothers, our souls bow in prayer, our hearts are lit as oil lamps in the corners

of our homes before the Lord Christ Who is risen from the tomb. We pray for world peace

and for the return of all the kidnapped, while we illuminate our hearts and souls with

Paschal hope, singing:

“Christ is risen from the dead trampling down death by death and to those in the tomb He

gave life”.

من لحظة الخطف وإلى يومنا هذا لم تسفر آالف المحاوالت والجهود في الكشف عن مصايار الاماطارانايان. كال ذلاك

ماا أساهامات الاى زياادة الامالاف غاماو اا وسط كم هائل من المعطيات والخيوط والتحليالت والتساؤالت التي غالبا

وتعقيدا.

المطرانين وعودتهما سالمين آمنين بيننا. لم نترك بابا محليا كان أو إقليميا أو حتى دوليا إال وطرقناه من حكوماات

ومنظمات وحشدنا العديد من الجهات والشخصيات الفاعلة والمؤثرة بهادف إدرا الاقا اياة عالاى شاتاى الاماناابار

العالمية وغيرها الكثير الكثير من الجهود والمساعي. نشكر من القالاب كال مان سااعاد ووعاد وقادم أو جاهاد أو

مساهمة إن كان على الصعيد اإلنساني أو اإلعالمي أو الدبلوماسي أو األمني أو السياسي بصفة رسمياة كاانات أو

حتى شخصية لما قد يبعث الدور الذو لعبوه من بصيص أمل وسط الظلمة والظالم المطبق والمحزن في حيان كاان

تعامي المجتمع الدولي وصمته قد ألقيا بظاللهما على هكذا ق ية إنسانية ومصيرية ملحقين ال رر بمسيرة البحث

عن حلول.

إذ ترتسم أمامنا اليوم صورة أخوينا المطرانين وهما في صالة دائمة من أجلنا جميعا، نطلب من كل مؤمنيناا حاياث

هم الصالة من أجلهما في هذا األسبوع تحديدا. نطلب الصالة من أجلهما ومن أجل كل ماظالاوم ماخاطاوف ومافاقاود

ومهجر وكل من اقت به الدينا فوجد رجاءه في صليب المسيح وعزاءه وقوته في قيامته المجيدة الظافرة.

هاذه الاباشارياة اإلنسان المشرقي ليس أبخس ثمنا من غيره. ولعل الوباء الحا ر، والذو اكتسح وياكاتاساح أسافاا

ونصلي من أجل أن يرتفع عنا، هو أو ح برهان أننا جميعا أوال وأخيرا، من كال األعاراق واألدياان واالناتامااءات

إخوة في اإلنسانية وركاب قارب واحد. ويا ليت اإلنسان قد وعى ذلاك وياا لايات السااساة ومان ياتاعااطاون الشاأن

العالمي قد وعوا أن طينة اإلنسان وكرامته هي هي مهما اختلف البلد واختلفت األرض والديار واللاةاة والاحا اارة

والدين. حل الوباء الحاصل على رغم مرارته ليقول إننا نتقاسم على هذه البسيطة وجاودا واحادا وأخاوة إنسااناياة

واحدة ويا ليت هذا كان جليا ووا حا أمام عين قلب وباصرة اإلنسان الذو يمتهن كرامة أخيه غير مدرك أن الويل

وأوال وأخايارا عان سيرجع وسينقلب عليه وأن كرامته هو ستنتقص أوال وأخيرا. األولى بنا جميعا أن نادافاع ماعاا

الكرامة اإلنسانية الحق ونعي أن كرامة أخينا اإلنسان وحياته وكل وجوده هو جزء من قلبنا ووجودنا وباعاض مان

كياننا.

نحن كمسيحيين في هذا الشرق جذر ارب في التاريخ لم يقربه يباس ولن يقربه يباس. ومن هاذا الاجاذر ياخار

الدوح الكبير ح ورا مسيحيا أنطاكيا في الشرق وفي كل العالم مزهرا فواحا بعبير الشهادة الاماساياحاياة لالاماساياح

يسوع له المجد والمحبة لألخ من كل األطياف. دروس التاريخ علمتنا أننا ال ناحاتاا حامااياة مان أحاد، وال نارياد

الحماية من أحد. نحن مكون أصيل من هذا الشرق بكل منعرجاته وبكل إشراقاته. أمام دورنا يسقط مناطاق األقالاياة

واألكثرية ليعلو منطق اللقيا والحوار ومنطق الدور الريادو الذو كان للمسيحيين ولةيرهم. ناحان لساناا ورقاة باياد

أحد ولن نكون ورقة ال بل رسالة وجود وأصالة وجسر تواصل وتالق بين الشرق والةرب وبين المسيحية وغيرها

من األديان.

نصلي اليوم من أجل أخوينا المطرانين ومن أجل كل مخطوف آخر ون ع نصب أعاياناناا أناناا لان ناألاو جاهادا فاي

مواصلة جهودنا بتحريك هذا الملف والوصول به إلى الخواتم المرجوة التي يترقبها قالاب كال مساياحاي ومشارقاي



وقلب كل ذو إرادة حسنة. وإذ نقول هذا، نؤكد أن درب الصليب انتهى إلى فجر قيامة.

صالتنا اليوم إلى رب القيامة وسيد الحياة يسوع المسيح أن يزيح بصلياباه حاجار الاقابار وياكالال أبصاارناا باناور

القيامة. صالتنا من أجل سالم العالم الذو يئن تحت وطأة الوباء. وصالتنا من أجل هذا الشرق بكل بلاداناه والاذو

يتلمس فجر القيامة من على جلجلة الصليب. صالتنا من أجل أبنائنا في حلب. نتوجه إليهام بشاكال خااص بساالم

الفصح سائلين رب القيامة أن يقيم الرجاء في قلوبهم وقلوبنا.

نحني وإياكم أيها األخوة ركبة النفس ونشعل زيت القلب في زوايا البيوت أمام الرب المسيح الناهض من الاقابار.

نصلي من أجل سالم العالم ومن أجل عودة المخطوفين ون يء قلوبنا ونفوسنا بالرجاء الفصحي مرنمين:

"المسيح قام من بين األموات ووطئ الموت بالموت ووهب الحياة للذين في القبور".
