Scope
• Started in June 2007,
• 5 Year CIP / 25 Yr Planned &
Reactive Maintenance,
• 26,200 columns,
– 18,500 in CIP,
– 5,700 Deemed to Comply,
– 2,000 Temporary Deemed to
Comply.
Lighting Solution
• White light solution in residential areas,
– S3 High Crime,
– S4 in all other areas,
• High pressure Sodium on traffic routes,
• High Uniformity,
• Our selected white light source was
the CosmoPolis lamp.
Our Challenge?
• Balance between cost
effectiveness and compliance,
– Maximise spacing with good
uniformity,
• Standard optic wouldn’t deliver
compliance within budget,
How was it achieved?
• Recognised the relationship
between the lamp and the optic,
• Re-engineer the standard optic, – R60,
– K2,
– VX,
• A partnering approach between
Philips and Balfour Beatty.
