SJN ANNUAL PICNIC Please stop in the lobby after Mass TODAY & register for our picnic to be held on Sunday, October 1. The

picnic is really special this year as we will be celebrating a special anniversary of a really spe-cial person at SJN.

HOSPITALITY SUNDAY TODAY, Sept. 10 is Hospitality Sunday. Please join us in Bovard Hall after the Masses on Sunday morn-

ing to enjoy coffee, juice, donuts & friends. If you would like to help with this ministry, please stop in the kitchen after Mass. We look forward to seeing you!

BISHOP ZUBIK HAS ASKED EVERY PARISH IN THE DIOCESE TO TAKE UP A 2ND COLLEC-TION FOR THE HURRICANE HARVEY VICTIMS NEXT WEEK-END, SEPT. 16/17. The funds col-lected will be used to support the efforts of Catholic Charities in meeting the needs of shel-ter, clean water, food & medical care. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

HOW ABOUT JOINING A FAITH SHARING GROUP THIS FALL?

Small group faith sharing is a beautiful way to deepen our faith and make new friends! Our faith-sharing groups will be using a book entitled “Living in the Sacred” by Father Ron Rohlheiser. There are groups meeting various days of the week and varying times beginning the week of October 1 and continuing for six weeks. Sign-ups will be after Masses the week-end of September 16, 17. For more information, con-tact Ginger Hixenbaugh, [email protected], or 412-367-0146

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS, LECTORS & ALTAR SERVERS

New serving schedules will be prepared shortly. If you have any changes to your availability, please email or call the parish office by Sept. 11. This sched-ule will run October thru Ash Weds. If you plan on attending the training, call the office (ext. 10) & pass along your info so we can get you on the schedule.

Relaxed,Renewed,Redeemed =RESTORE! This describes how people feel after an evening of

prayer and adoration. Through experi-ences like AWAKEN and XLT, hundreds of people in our parish and surrounding area have shared with us a desire to have a regular time of adoration and joy-

ful prayer with our Lord. So this fall we are intro-ducing RESTORE, an evening (6:45-7:45 pm) of Praise and Worship music provided by our Encoun-ter Music Ministry, a witness by a fellow SJN pa-rishioner, an inspiring message and, of course, time in adoration with our Lord Jesus Christ. Our Fall lineup includes Julie Amatangelo, Victoria Sheridan, Nick Sciarappa and Gary Fritsch, who will share stories & messages of faith, hope & joy. RESTORE dates: Tuesdays: September 26, Oc-tober 24, November 28, December 19.

MONDAY SCHOOL “MADE FOR CHANGE” Just about everyone is back in school - even here! Changes are everywhere! So get ready. Change your plans a bit & come to MONDAY SCHOOL on Sept. 11 at 7 pm in the youth/LOWC room. You’ll be amazed at the stories and reflections of Deacon Rick and Carolyn Kiliany. Their Peru trip has changed their lives in many ways. Our theme for the year is “Made for Change” and Carolyn & Rick can attest to the wisdom and wondrous ways of God. Perhaps their stories will even change us a little and bring us closer to God and each other. Please join us and bring a friend.

BISHOP EDUCATON FUND The collection box is in the back of the church for the annual Bishop’s Education Fund collection THIS week-end. Your contribution helps students who would like to benefit from a Catholic school education.

RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY Our ministry is concerned with “life” issues and holds annual fundraisers and participate in activities that support Catholic Charities, Women’s Choice Network (baby bottles), 40 Days for Life, and Genesis House (housing for pregnant women). We usually meet the first Monday evening of every month. However, with the Labor Day holiday weekend, our next meeting will be Monday, September 11th at 7:00pm. We hope to see you there!

BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENING WILL BE-GIN AGAIN THIS WEEK-END IN CONF. ROOM B. TAKE A MINUTE AFTER MASS & GET YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKED.

GOOD SHEPHERD

The new school year is just around the corner and so is the beginning of our Good Shepherd year! Regular sessions begin the week of September 18th. Late reg-istrations are still being taken. If you have not yet reg-istered, you must do so ASAP! Go to the St. John Neumann website and click on the link to regis-ter. Contact Kelly at 412-366-5885 ext. 16 or [email protected] for more information.

GOOD SHEPHERD OPEN HOUSE This Sunday after all the Masses, the Good Shepherd atria will be open to everyone. Stop by to take a look at the space where our chil-

dren grow to know Jesus in a deep way. Catechists will be on hand to answer any questions you might have. This is a great opportunity for children to see the atrium and to share with parents, grandparents and friends the mystery of God’s love found in this sacred space.

CATECHETICAL SUNDAY Next Sunday, September 17th, we will celebrate Catechetical Sunday. Those whom the community has designated to serve as catechists will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry. Cate-chetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Bap-tism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith. Catechists from all catechetical ministries in our parish will come forward for a bless-ing as we begin a new catechetical year. We ask that you keep everyone who serves in the ministry of catechesis in your prayers.

Where Two or Three Are Gathered – The goal of On Mission for The Church Alive! is to build up and strengthen the Body of Christ, the Church in Pittsburgh. While this proc-ess involves many aspects, including

studying how our parishes are structured, fundamentally it is about fostering relationships rooted in faith and love. We are all beloved children of God and heirs to his King-dom. We cannot forget this as throughout the coming months and years we get to know even more of our broth-ers and sisters in Christ. While we are anxious about what we might lose, we must be confident about what we will be able to gain as we grow together. “For where two or three are gathered in [Jesus’] name, there [he] is in the midst of them.” Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more about it and to stay informed.

LIVING ROSARY What a wonderful way to say goodbye to Sum-mer! Please come and join the Knights of Co-lumbus for the Living Rosary on Wednesday,

September 13th at 7:00PM at the outside Rosary Garden at Sts. John & Paul Church. All parishioners are invited to participate with the Knights. Please invite friends and family to this special ceremony. If the weather doesn’t permit us to recite the Rosary outdoors, it will be held in the Cardinal DiNardo Center. After the Rosary con-cludes, we’ll be providing refreshments at the Cardinal DiNardo Center.

GOT QUESTIONS ABOUT LIFE? TRY ALPHA! At St. Alexis – Back by popular demand, the Alpha 12- week program is scheduled to begin Thursday, September 14th. It is an opportunity to explore life and the Christian faith in a friendly, open and informal environment. Each evening will begin at 6:30 with a freshly prepared meal followed by a video presentation on the night’s topic, discussion in small groups, and will conclude by 8:30pm. Alpha can be a life changing program. Registration is available online at www. stalexis.org. Additional questions can be directed to Rob Dougherty at [email protected] or by calling Rob at 412-225-2823. Cost to attend – no charge to you!!!

THE MESSAGES OF FATIMA St. Teresa of Avila Parish is sponsoring a monthly series celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady at Fatima led by Fr. Christopher Man-nerino. The next session in the series will be held on Wednesday, September 13th at 7 pm in St. Teresa Church. Please join them even if you missed previous sessions.

good time to use our packet of materials. If we missed your child (age 7+) at our spring meetings, please call Barb Stokes for more info. We look forward to seeing everyone (parent & child) on Sept. 17 for prayer, video and discussion time to help us prepare for these important steps of faith.

WONDER, QUESTION & CALL Sometimes we are blessed to have people come to SJN who are not “in full commun-

ion” with the Catholic Church. We are always grateful that they witness to God’s grace with us. Perhaps they even WONDER why we do the things we do at Mass and they QUESTION what is the meaning and purpose. These are things we all should keep exploring to grow in faith. Today, let’s issue the CALL and invite others to come and grow with us through the RCIA process. No obligation - just information. Come on Sunday evening, Sept. 17 at 7 pm for wine & cheese and per-haps a new way of encountering the Lord. All are in-vited but please RSVP to Barb Stokes by Sept. 10
