71st VIETNAM INDEPENDANCE DAY CEREMONY

Assumption University Vietnamese Students Community organized the 71st VIETNAM INDEPENDANCE DAY on September 2, 2016 at John Paul XXIII Conference Center, Assumption University, Suvarnabhumi campus. The honored guest joining this auspicious and fun-filled event among numerous Vietnamese students, was Rev. Bro. Dr. Amnuay Yoonprayong, Vice President for Moral Development Education.

Annual Staff Seminar 2016“Moving forward together with Synergy and Commitment”

Office of Human Resources Management organized the annual staff seminar 2016 on September 17, 2016 at John XXIII Conference Center, Assumption University, Suvarnabhumi campus with Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, Rector Magnificus, presiding over the opening. This was followed by Rev. Bro. Dr. Sirichai Fonseka, Vice President for Student Affairs, keynote lecture on the topic “Moving forward together with the spirit of synergy and commitment”.

AU Freshy Day & Night 2016

“The wonderland”

AU Freshy Day & Night 2016 under the theme “The Wonderland” was organized by Assumption University Student Organization on September 19, 2016 at John Paul II Sports Center, Assumption University, Suvarnabhumi campus. This fun-filled and exciting event featured the Prince & Princess contest, various shows & performances presented by International Student Community, AU Band, School of Music, Music Club, Art Performance and Personality Club, Dance Club and the special Concert. Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, Rector Magnificus, presided over the opening; delivering a welcome address to all freshmen.

Assumption University Participates in the First Republic Day of Nepal Celebration

The Director of the Office of International Affairs Mr. Glen Chatelier greeted the Ambassador of Nepal H.E. Mr. Adhikari and his wife at the Nailert Park Swiss Hotel on September 20, 2016 at a reception to celebrate the First Republic Day of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.

Invited Speaker from National Chung Cheng University, Taiwan

Faculty of Biotechnology invited Professor Dr. Wen- Chien Lee to give a seminar under the topic “Functional inclusion bodies over-expressed in Escherichia coli on 23rd September, 2016 at Assumption University, Hua Mak campus. Prof. Dr. Wen-Chien Lee is professor in Department of Chemical Engineering and Director of Systems Biology and Tissue Engineering Research Center at National Chung Cheng University. In past three years, he has been a President of the Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering Society of Taiwan (BEST) and deputy secretary general of the Asian Federation of Biotechnology (AFOB). He has published 98 international journal papers, book chapters and holding many international patents. His current research interests are proteomics, biomagnetic particles, production of proteins and biomass-based chemicals. There was about 35 participants attended the seminar including undergraduate students, graduate students and faculty members. Prof. Dr. Wen-Chien Lee also proposed to set up future collaborations in term of research and academic with Faculty of Biotechnology, Assumption University.

Assumption University’s Donation to Red Cross Society

M.R. Priyangsri Watanakun, Assistant Secretary General for Fund Raising and Director of Fund Raising Bureau of Thai Red Cross Society led Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, Rector Magnificus and a group of administers from Assumption University to have an audience with HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn at the Dusidalai-Hall, Chitralada Villa Royal Residence on September 27, 2016. During the royal audience , the rector presented Her Royal Highness with 300,000 Baht donation received from the charity “Run for Love” Project. The proceeds will go towards Red Cross Society.

Assumption University participates in the 51st Anniversary Celebrations of Atma Jaya University, Indonesia

The Director of the Office of International Affairs Mr. Glen Chatelier, representing the President of Assumption University Rev. Brother Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, greeted and congratulated Dr. Gregorious Sri Nuhartanto the Rector of the University of Atma Jaya Yokyakarta, Indonesia on the occasion of the University’s 51st Anniversary Celebrations, from September 26 to 30, 2016. Also pictured is Dr. Mohd. Syaful Rizal bin Abdul Hamid, the Dean of the Faculty of Tecnology Management and Technopreneurship, the Technical University of Malaysia, Melaka.

Assumption University Participates in the UN Day of Non-Violence

The Director of the Office of International Affairs Mr. Glen Chatelier, and Assumption University’s Visiting Professor Dr. Ioan Voicu attended the U.N. Day of Non- Violence at the UN ESCAP Building, Bangkok on October 4, 2016 and greeted H.E. Mr. Gilberto Fonseca Guimaraes de Moura, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Brazil, and Assistant Professor Dr. Chirapat Prapandvidya, of the Silapakorn University Sanskrit Studies Center.

Assumption University participates in the Reception for German Unity Day 2016

The Director of the Office of International Affairs Mr. Glen Chatelier greeted and congratulated the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, His Excellency Mr. Peter Prugel on October 4, 2016 at the Chao Phraya Ballroom, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel at a Diplomatic Reception on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of German Unity Day.

The Celebration of Taiwan’s 105th National Day in 2016

The Director of the Office of International Affairs Mr. Glen Chatelier greeted His Excellency Mr. Kelly W. Hseih, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand and Ms. Jill Lai, the Cultural Attaché at a Reception celebrating the 105th National Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan) at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel on October 10, 2016.

8th Art and Cultural Tour for Student Scholarship Recipients Assumption University, in cooperation with Ruam Chit Nom Klao Foundation under Her Majesty the Queen's Patronage, conducted the 8th art, cultural and educational tour for 100 student scholarship recipients visiting various tourist attractions; i.e. major temples, palaces and places of important art and cultural values in Bangkok and the nearby provinces from October 12 to 16, 2016. This was to enhance these students’ love and commitment for preserving valuable art and cultural heritage of the country. Rev. Bro. Dr. Prathip Martin Komolmas, Rector Emeritus, and Rev. Bro. AEC 2016 Business Forum Hosted by Bangkok Bank at the Shangrila hotel at which Dr. Supachai Panitchapakdi was the Keynote address on October 19, 2016.

MOU Signing Ceremony on Academic Cooperation

Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, Rector Magnificus, Assumption University and Bro. Arwut Silaket , Director of St. Louis School Chachoengsao, signed the MOU on academic cooperation between the two institutions on September 29, 2016 at St. Gabriel Hall, Assumption University, Suvarnabhumi Campus. The main objectives of this cooperation are to boost the quality and effectiveness in the educational system of St Louis School Chachoengsao; and promptly improve the proficiency in English language skills of its interested students and other overall relevant areas. The other intended improvements or developments are highlighted below: 1. Personnel Development 2. Teaching Methodology 3. Supporting Methods for Senior Academics and Lecturers as well as learning sources or centers 4. Other Areas in Developing Quality and Educational Excellence.

Nursing students’traditional WaiKru Ceremony

The nursing students’ traditional Wai Kru Ceremony was organized by Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science on September 15, 2016 and presided over by Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, Rector Magnificus. Other notable guests included Rev. Bro. Dr. Prathip M. Komolmas, Rector Emeritus, Rev. Bro. Dr. Amnuay Yoonprayong, Vice President for Moral Development Education, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Nanthaphan Chinlumprasert, Dean of Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science. Also participating in the event, which took place at the Auditorium Hall, De Montfort Building, Assumption University, Hua Mak campus, were faculty members and nursing science students.

Spinta Episode III : Life Without Music Bb Concert

School of Music, Assumption University, organized the concert “Spinta Episode III : Life Without Music Bb”. Dr. Vindhai Cocracul, Vice President for Academic Affairs, was a guest of honor during the occasion. The event, which took place on September 21, 2016, at Martin Hall, the Cathedral of Learning, was attended by several faculty members and students from School of Music.

Sensory Workshop for the Blinds

Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghirun, Rector Magnificus, presented certificates of completion to the blinds (visually impaired people) who completed the sensory workshop i.e. smelling, tasting and identifying various types of food and drink products. The event was organized by King Mongkut's University of Technology, Thonburi, in collaboration with the School of Biotechnology, Assumption University on September 22, 2016 at the Hall of Fame, Chalerm Rachamongkol Building, Assumption University, Hua Mak campus.

Capping Ceremony of Nursing Students (Class of 2018)

Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, Rector Magnificus, Assumption University, presided over the Nursing Capping Ceremony Class of 2018 on October 14, 2016 organized by the Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science. Present during this nursing pinning ceremony were Rev. Bro. Dr. Amnuay Yoonprayong, Vice President for Moral Development Education, Asst. Prof. Dr. Nanthaphan Chinlumprasert, Dean of Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science, administrators, faculty members, students and their parents.

The 6th Albert Prize Presentation

Center for Student Leadership and Experiential Learning for Student Affairs organized the 6th Albert Prize Presentation of various categories to the winners on September 22, 2016 at Albert Hall, AU Mall, Assumption University, Suvarnabhumi campus. Joining the event to congratulate the award winning students, were Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, Rector Magnificus, Rev. Bro. Dr. Amnuay Yoonprayong, Vice President for Moral Development Education, Dr. Vindhai Cocracul, Vice President for Academic Affairs, administrators, faculty members and many other students.

Recipient of “KPMG Asean Scholarship 2016”

Congratulations to Miss Janissa Phiboonsaksophon Saurin, Accounting Department, Martin de Tours School of Management and Economics for winning "KPMG Asean Scholarship 2016" which was awarded by Mr. Winid Silamingkol, CEO of KPMG Poomchai Holdings Co., Ltd on August 18, 2016. Miss Jenissa is among the six finalists from Thai Universities to be awarded the scholarship. Participating in this occasion were Asst. Prof. Dr. Amara Tirasriwat, Chairperson of Accounting Department and A. Sasipa Tirabulgul, Lecturer.

Prizes, Awards and Honors

ABAC student awarded TAIST scholarship

Ms. Siripa Jitjang, a graduate of Faculty of Biotechnology, Agro-Industry major, obtained a full scholarship from TAIST (Thailand Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and Tokyo Institute of Technology) to pursue her Master’s Degree study in Environmental Engineering. Ms. Jitjang asserted that achieving her outstanding studies in biotechnology, agro-industry, from an International English-medium Assumption University enabled her to accomplish innovation in biotechnology field, and thus leading her to obtain this coveted scholarship to further her study abroad.

Another ABAC student granted “Scholarship for Excellent Researcher”

Mr. Natpisit Chaitachawong, a graduate of an Agro-Industry major, Faculty of Biotechnology, Assumption University, was awarded a full “Scholarship for Excellent Researcher” to pursue his Master’s Degree program majoring in Molecular Biology in the Department of Forest product and Biotechnology, Kookmin University, Korea which initiated MOU with Faculty of Biotechnology, Assumption University in 2015. Mr. Chaitachawong attributed his success in obtaining this scholarship to his excellent education at Assumption University which provided him with practical knowledge and experience in the relevant fields.

The ceremony paying respect to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej was organized by Assumption University’s Student Organization on October 17, 2016 at the Thai Pavillion, Suvarnabhumi Campus, which was participated by several administrators, faculty members, staff and countless students. Also present during this occasion were Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, Rector Magnificus, and Rev. Bro. Dr. Prathip M. Komolmas, Rector Emeritus.
