In his book, Life Together, Bonhoeffer talks about the rule of the individual in the church. I hope that you enjoy this short piece. Even in this new situation all the members of the community are given their special place; this is no longer the place, however, in which they can most successfully promote themselves, but the place where they can best carry out their service. In a Christian community, everything depends on whether each individual is an indispensable link in a chain. The chain is unbreakable only when even the smallest link holds tightly with the others. A community which permits within itself members who do nothing will be destroyed by them. Thus it is a good idea that all members receive a definite task to perform for the community, so that they may know in times of doubt that they, too, are not useless and incapa- ble of doing anything. Every Christian community must know that not only do the weak need the strong, but also that the strong cannot exist without the weak. The elimination of the weak is the death of the community. A Place for All

Dietrich Bonhoeffer has inspired thousands of Christians well before and after his death on April 9, 1945. Bonhoeffer was often a critic and defender of the church and spoke often about the nature and the mission of the church. In his book, Life Together, Bonhoeffer talks about the rule of the individual in the church. I hope that you enjoy this short piece.

“Even in this new situation all the members of the community are given their special place; this is no longer the place, however, in which they can most successfully promote themselves, but the place where they can best carry out their service. In a Christian community, everything depends on whether each individual is an indispensable link in a chain. The chain is unbreakable only when even the smallest link holds tightly with the others. A community which permits within itself members who do nothing will be destroyed by them. Thus it is a good idea that all members receive a definite task to perform for the community, so that they may know in times of doubt that they, too, are not useless and incapa-ble of doing anything. Every Christian community must know that not only do the weak need the strong, but also that the strong cannot exist without the weak. The elimination of the weak is the death of the community. “

Who you are and what you are in Christ Jesus is of vital importance here at Americus First!

CHRISMON TREES

Take a moment to look at the ornaments on the tree in the sanctu-ary and social hall. They are special and were made by women of our church.

"Chrismon" is a combination of the words "Christ" and "monogram," and means "symbols of Christ." Chrismons are gold and white, representing majesty and purity. Ideas for fashioning them are developed from early Christian symbols, the Bible and church histories. One example would be the Butterfly: The butterfly is a symbol of Christ's resurrection and eternal life. Just as the butterfly emerges from its cocoon and flies upward with a new body, the followers of Jesus Christ are reborn and given a new life.

Chapel with Bright Beginnings kiddos, Tuesday, December 11: We finished talking about the meaning of Advent. Wednesday, December 12 , 6-7 p.m.: We had music practice for our song that we are singing Sunday. Birthday Party for Jesus! We celebrated Jesus’ birthday with some food and games! Sunday, December 16: Sunday School- The kids will study two miracles of Jesus. One was a sick little girl whose dad sought Jesus out in faith that Jesus could heal his child. The other was a woman who had been sick for years. She had spent all her money going to doctors, but nothing helped. The woman believed that all she needed was to touch the hem of Jesus' robe and she would be healed. Kids studied that Jesus is all-powerful. He rules over sickness. (from Mark 5: 21-43). Children's Church- We will be combining Advent lesson #2 and #3, since we didn't have CC last week. The kids will learn about the Prophets: Voices through the Ages and the Birth of Christ.

In Him, Stephanie
