Length of boring bar required = X + 27.5 inches (698.5 mm) + required strokeCutting should be performed within 9 inches (228.6 mm) of a bearing support. Maximum recommended unsupported bar lengthbetween any two bearings is 36 inches (914.4 mm).
The space between the back of the bearing mounting plate and theface of the bore must be at least 3 inches (76.2 mm) for set-upcone removal. If the bore has a shoulder or boss, increase theheight of the spacer plate and the length of the bar accordingly.

A Fast Six-Step Process
Insert a properlyground tool bit into thetool hole in the bar,
adjust for depth of cut, andlock in place with the setscrew. Attach the hydraulichoses.Elapsed time: 5 minutes.
And there you are... ready tobegin the first boring pass.
Total elapsed time: 31 minutes.
The axial feed unit isslipped onto the barand the leadscrew is
screwed into the pocket on therotational drive unit. Tighteningtwo clamping collars locks theaxial feed unit to the bar.Elapsed time: 3 minutes.
Slide the rotational driveonto the bar. Firmlypush it onto the
spherical mount, and lock it inplace with one bolt. Tightenthe rear clamping collarenough to be snug but so thebar can slide through it. Elapsed time: 4 minutes.
Remove the set-upcones and replace thebar. The set-up cones
will adequately center the bar,unless you have very precisetolerances, or need to movethe centerline of the boreslightly. Final centering adjustments are made with thejacking screws.Elapsed time: 5 minutes.
Slide on sphericalmounts with tack weldplates, and tack weld
them to the workpiece. These mounts have sphericalbearings so they can bemounted up to 5° out of perpendicular alignment.Elapsed time: 10 minutes,
Slide the bar throughthe two holes to bebored and roughly
center it with the set-up cones.The set-up cones are forcedinto the bore with the clampring jacking screw and lockedonto the bar with a set screw.Elapsed time: 4 minutes.

Setup of the BB5000 Portable Boring Machine is quick andeasy. An experienced operator can set up the machine inmost typical two-bore line boring applications in about halfan hour (depending on alignment tolerances). The threemain ingredients of the quick setup system are:

A Wide Variety of ApplicationsDo you need to put the axial feed unit on one end of the bar and the rotationaldrive on the other? No problem... all you need to do is use the leadscrew blockclamped or tack welded to the work piece. In fact, just about any arrangementof components can be used as long as you maintain rigidity by placing bearingsupports as close as possible to the holes to be bored. Need to align and borefour holes that are 18 inches (457.2 mm) apart? Just use a long bar and weld abearing bracket at each hole for support. The modular components let you usethe machine in a wide variety of combinations.

No. DescriptionSmall Bore Components for your BB5000A complete small bore kit includes a sleeve set, set-up cones, and 1.25 or 1.75 inch (31.8 or 44.5 mm)diameter bar(s). Sleeve set includes rotational drive sleeve with drivekey, axial feed sleeve, and two bearing sleeves (everybearing requires a sleeve.) All sleeves include retainingsnap rings.
2.25 inch and 1.75 inch diameter bars use 1/2 inch or 12 mm tool bits. 1.25inch diameter bars use 3/8 inch or 10 mm tool bits.
For bars 72 inches or longer, Climax recommends a minimum of 4 bearings,therefore 4 bearing sleeves are included in the small bore kits supplied with72 or 96 inch (1828.8 or 2438.4 mm) bars.
Small bore kits supplied with 48 inch (1219.2 mm) bars will have tool holes 6inches (152.4 mm) between centers. Small bore kits supplied with 72 inch(1828.8 mm) or longer bars will have tool holes 10 inches (254.0 mm)between centers. 6 inch hole spacing is available on longer bars uponrequest.
