All students, in all classrooms are deeply engaged in their learning whenever I visit and it is wonderful to see! Thank you! Thank you to everyone for your patience and support for our afternoon pick up procedures. We know it takes slightly longer than usual but most days we have all students safely returned to their parents/carers within 5-7 minutes. Please continue to ensure that your child/ren know IN THE MORNING which gate they are getting picked up from that afternoon as we are still having confused children of an afternoon, or last minute phone calls to the office with changes to arrangements. Kindergarten Enrolment 2021 If you have a child starting in Kindergarten in 2021 or if you know of any community members who have children that are due to start next year, please ask them to call the schools front office team to start the enrolment process. Semester 1 Reports We wish to acknowledge and thank all of our parents and students for the amazing and supportive manner in which you have responded to the challenges associated with the COVID-19 period and ongoing education. Reflecting the unique nature of learning during this period the NSW Department of Education has determined that it is most appropriate for schools to provide parents and carers with a modified student report for Semester 1, 2020. Our reports will focus on the learning that has taken place this year and which includes individual students progress and achievement of the learning in Mathematics and English with guidance to move learning forward (learning goals). All achievement will be assessed on what teachers have been able to observe, within the classroom, during the reduced time they have had in the classroom. The A-E scale normally used will not be utilised this Semester, but will be used for our semester 2 reports. Attendance for Semester 1 Reports The attendance component of our Semester 1 reports will include the Learning at Home period. Teachers will be determining student attendance based on the evidence of work that was provided to teachers. If you still have student work and exercise books at home, can you please return to the class teacher as soon as possible. This is particularly important if you did not upload work to seesaw each day as requested. Return of Resources During the Learning at Home period, the school provided families with a range of resources to use. Can we please have these resources returned to school as soon as possible, especially the counters, novels and school magazines as students are still using these in the classroom daily. Have a great fortnight! Lyndal Coleman Principal Did you know? Outstanding Invoices Unpaid Fee notices for the Book Fees have been mailed home recently. We have also included information on how to pay online via the school website. Alternatively, payment can be made at the school office with cash or EFTPOS. Payment can be made by instalments—it does not need to be made in one full amount. If you are having difficulty making this payment, please contact the office. Spare Clothes Return We are in short supply of spare clothes in the office. If your child has borrowed some clothes because of an accident at school, please wash and return them as soon as possible. We don’t have many clothes on hand for these incidents . If your child needs a spare change of clothes and we don’t have any to give them, we will need to call you to bring some to the school for them. Year 6 High School Expression of Interest Forms Early last term, forms were sent home to all year 6 students to be completed and returned for high school. There are still a number of students who haven’t returned the form. Please complete and return the form as a matter of urgency (even if your child will be going to a private high school) as these help high schools plan for next year. Thank you to those who have already returned the form. Opportunity Class 2021 Notes were sent home last week with information about Year 5 Opportunity Class Application for 2021. If you did not receive the information and would like to know more, please contact the office. Chicken Pox We have had confirmed cases of chicken pox within the school. Please be mindful of symptoms if your children are unwell.

Medication at School Coming into winter we would like to remind parents about the process for anyone needing medication at school. The Department’s policy is: Prescribed Medication: If your child is prescribed medication that must be administered during the school day, parents/carers must:

Notify the school

Provide up to date information as required

Supply the medication and any “consumables” necessary for its administration in a timely way.

The administration of such medication forms part of the Department’s common law duty of care to take reasonable steps to keep students safe while they attend school.

The administration of prescribed medication in schools is carried out by staff who volunteer and who are trained. Except in an emergency, only individual staff members who have volunteered and been trained will administer prescribed medication to students.

Parents /carers of children who require prescribed medication to be administered at school must complete a written request (available from the office). Medication can be sent to school in a Webster pack from the chemist. If this is not possible the medication must be provided to school in original packaging. A register will be kept of all medication received at school. Students must not carry medications unless there is a written agreement between the school and the student’s parents/carers.

Non-Prescribed Medications: Schools generally do not administer medication that hasn’t been prescribed for an individual student’s specific condition. In some cases the medical practitioner may not write a prescription for such medication because it may be available “over the counter”. These “over the counter” medications may still be harmful and therefore the same procedures will be followed for prescribed medications.

who has tested positive for the coronavirus. In an education setting, this will include contact during classroom lessons, recess and lunch breaks, extra-curricular activities, transport etc. Parents will be notified via a phone call and formally in writing if their child has been in close contact with someone who has tested positive to COVID-19 while at school. Students will be required to remain in home isolation and not return to school for 14 days from the last possible contact. In this situation, the school will arrange for the student to receive their learning programs at home. A ‘casual contact’ is someone who has been at the school or workplace at the time the confirmed case was onsite but has not had close contact with the confirmed case. Where a child is not deemed a close contact to a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the school community, parents will be advised to monitor for symptoms and seek treatment if appropriate. In these situations, students and staff are not required to self-isolate and can continue to attend school and engage in their normal activities within the community. All families will receive a formal letter from the school to advise what to do if they have been at school on a day when the confirmed case was considered to be infectious. School Operations Parents and students will be notified when a decision is made to make the school non-operational for onsite attendance to enable the contact tracing process to take place and/or to have the school site thoroughly cleaned. Information about the operational status of the school will be disseminated using the school’s information channels, including the Schools Notification App, Facebook page and the department’s website. During this period, educational material will be made available through the department remote learning hub to enable students to continue learning at home. Parents and students will be notified by the department when the school is ready to resume onsite learning. Safety and hygiene The department is continuing to work closely with NSW Health and other related Australian Government agencies to ensure the best possible precautions are in place to protect students and staff in our public schools. Schools have comprehensive infection control and first aid arrangements in place and are well practised in implementing practical strategies and standard precautions to prevent the spread of disease in our schools. Good personal hygiene, including regular hand washing, cleaning and disinfecting and the use of personal protective equipment are vigorously applied across all schools. Where there is a confirmed case of COVID-19, specialist cleaning will be carried out at the school site in accordance with NSW Health protocols before the school resumes operations again.

Family Contact Information Sometimes the school may need to contact parents or carers regarding students. Please be mindful of keeping contact details up to date. This includes address, phone numbers and emergency contacts. Also, if your family circumstances change—perhaps break up of family, please advise the office so that records can be updated. It would also include any changes in medical conditions. Parent Online Payments (POP) Sometimes it is easier to make payments via our website rather than send money with your child or you may not be able to come the office yourself. From the school website, go to the tab for “Make a Payment” and follow your way through the required information. Department of Education Response to Confirmed Cases of Covid-19 The information we have received from the Department is as follows: The department has protocols in place where it is notified by NSW Health immediately when there is a confirmed case of COVID-19 who is a school age student or a member of staff. In addition, schools and workplaces are required to notify all suspected and confirmed cases of COVID-19 to the department’s internal incident reporting hotline. All confirmed cases are immediately assessed by the department and NSW Health to determine whether the student, staff or school community member has been infectious while at school and to determine the appropriate course of action required to minimise the risk to the wider community. Key actions include: Contact tracing to identify all close contacts

to a confirmed case. In some instances, this may require closing the school while the contact tracing process is completed

Communication with parents advising them whether their child has been in close contact with a confirmed case

Thorough cleaning of the school site to ensure the environment is clean and safe prior to the school resuming onsite learning

Contact tracing A ‘close contact’ is someone who has spent significant time either face to face (15mins) or in an enclosed space (two hours or more) as someone
