Join Rabbi Amy Feder & Rabbi Michael Alper for a casual introduction to Judaism class. We discuss everything from lifecycle to theology to holidays, and everything in between! All are welcome to come and learn!

THE WAY INTO TORAH

The class, led by Rabbi Alper, is for anyone interested in learning the Torah for the first time. Taught at an introductory level, students will encounter some of the most famous laws and legends of Jewish history and culture. Each class will be based upon classical rabbinic interpretations of the Torah. Bring your own lunch.

SATURDAY BIBLE STUDY - LED BY RABBI EMERITUS MARK L. SHOOK

Rabbi Shook will present a comprehensive and in depth study of the Book of Jeremiah. Students will explore the history and culture of the biblical prophets. They will gain a unique understanding of how and why the Hebrew Bible was written, and even… by whom. No previous Bible study experience necessary. Bring an English language copy of the Hebrew Bible.

Be our ushpizin (guests) and help us to raise the Temple Israel Sukkah for Sukkot. We’ll need lots of hands, hammers, and screwdrivers; you can bring your own or use ours. After Shabbat services, join us outside in the Temple Israel Sukkah on the Brodsky Circle Lawn for a special blessing as we wave the lulav and etrog and make decorations to hang inside the Sukkah. Adults and children of all ages are invited to participate. No RSVP required.

SIMCHAT TORAH & CONSECRATION

Friday, October 28 6:00 pm Pre-Oneg Followed by Shabbat Services, Consecration, and a Dessert Oneg

Join us to celebrate Simchat Torah with tons of singing, dancing, parading around the Sanctuary with the Torah, and unrolling an entire scroll for all to see as we start the annual cycle of Torah reading anew! We will celebrate the consecration of all of our new Religious School students as well. Service will be followed by a special dessert Oneg for all ages to enjoy. No RSVP required.

ANNUAL HIGH HOLY DAYS PERSONAL CARE ITEM DRIVE AT TEMPLE ISRAEL September - October, 2016

Needed items include toilet paper, soaps, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, disposable razors, shaving cream, diapers, and feminine hygiene products. We’ll have volunteers and blue collection barrels available at all High Holy Days services. YOM KIPPUR AFTERNOON HANDS-ON LEARNING SESSION ABOUT POVERTYOctober 12, 12:15 pm - 3:15 pm - Meeting in the May Chapel

On Yom Kippur afternoon, join us for a hands-on learning session about poverty, where you’ll have the opportunity to experience what it’s like for the thousands of low-income individuals and families who face poverty every day. Participants will role-play the lives of low-income families, including single parents, people with disabilities, and senior citizens on Social Security, and then discuss the potential for change within our local communities.

For the month of October, the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry is looking for these specific items in order to assist the community in need:

Healthy Cereals and Oatmeal, Canned Beef Stew/Chili/Pasta with Meat, Kosher Food, Peanut Butter, All Types of Tomato Products, Any kind of Canned Vegetables, Canned Fruits, Toothpaste, Sham-poo & Toilet Paper.

Volunteer for the 30th annual Thanksgiving Dinner for Those in Need Wednesday, November 23, 2016

Each year, this event serves more than 400 guests who come to Temple Israel from homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters, and through social service agency referrals. Our goal is to ensure that every person who attends receives a comforting holiday meal, wonderful service, and warm fellowship with others as they enjoy this Thanksgiving tradition.
