From the Pastor…
Thank You and Happy New Year!
I am a very blessed man. Thank you for the Christmas gift. It’s amazing how
much it helps, and we really, really appreciate it. Thank you again.
We also, that is, each and every Dugan, thank you for coming to our Open House.
For the food you share, and the greetings and gifts you bring, we, like Mary,
treasure these things in our hearts.
One of the hallmarks of pastoral ministry is building and maintaining relation-
ships. On that score, you make it easy and enjoyable. It’s an honor to be your
pastor. God’s blessings overflow from you to us, and we hope vice versa, too.
Finally, a word about the New Year…
My prayer is this: May God be with you every step of the way through 2017, and
may you feel God so near that you fear nothing at all.
With our warmest regards, deepest gratitude, and prayers for all that will benefit
you spiritually, and on behalf of my family: Happy New Year, St. Matthew’s,
Happy New Year, indeed!
In Christian love,
Pastor Tim

will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2017. The march will start at 2:45 PM at
First Presbyterian Church on the Square and head across the street to the Old
Courthouse for a short ceremony. We will then return to the church for the ser-
vice beginning at 4:00 PM which will be followed by a repass. The keynote
speaker will be the Rev. Thomas A. Keyes and there will be musical selections
from the Unity Singers of Carlisle and The Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church

Instead of holding a healing service on a holiday, I thought we might try the following week. You
are invited to experience the laying on of hands, anointing with oil, and being prayed for, as well as
praying for others following our normal worship service. Please come.

Remember those who serve.
Please keep them in your prayers.
Capt. Nick McKenzie, U.S. Air Force (Bob and Pam Merwine’s son-in-law,
Kelsie’s husband)
Mission Minded And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and
with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love
your neighbor as yourself.”
Matthew 22:37-39
All Year - We continue our commitment to Project SHARE as the corn church.
Watch the January bulletins and the bulletin board in the narthex for information about serving at the
Soup Kitchen. Typically we prepare and serve food the first Saturday in February. The schedule has
not been set for 2017. More information will be forthcoming when we hear from the Salvation Army.
January 2017 and Our First Mission Outreach Sunday
January 29th will be our first Mission Outreach Sunday. For clarity’s sake, worship will remain
mostly the same. We’d like to invite everyone to join in Christian fellowship following the service,
as it is Family Sunday. While enjoying refreshments, we’re going to assemble visitor-welcome kits.
The idea is to avail ourselves to the community. Sometimes that means handing such a kit to a visi-
tor; other times, it might mean passing one on to a neighbor. We’ll have fun, and you can feel good
about helping your church to extend its mission and outreach into the greater community.
Thank you for your consideration,
The Music and Worship Committee, the Mission Committee, and the Outreach Committee
Next OnWord—And All that Jazz

How does jazz fit within our faith? Come and hear for yourself. Please bring a
friend. See you there!

the kitchen, please let Dawn Trout know.
Soda Tabs We are still collecting soda tabs in the
back of the sanctuary. The soda tabs
are recycled to help Project SHARE.

Giant/Karns Gift Cards Food for thought… check out the chart below. It shows how much the church would receive in a
year’s time if you purchase a certain dollar amount of gift cards each month. This is a super simple
way for the church to receive extra money without doing a single fundraiser.
If you do any shopping monthly at Giant or Karns, please consider purchasing the gift cards we offer
each week in the church office. It’s money you’re spending anyways… why not help the church at
the same time. You receive the full face value, Giant and Karns give the 5% to the church. If you
have questions about this program, please talk to Tammy Snyder or Joan Hiser.
For the month of November, we sold $3,475 of gift cards, for a profit of $173.75 for the church.
Amount purchased monthly: Church’s profit in one year:
$25 $15
$50 $30
$100 $60
$150 $90
$200 $120
$250 $150
$300 $180
$350 $210
$400 $240
Brick Pavers There are still brick pavers available for engraving for the walkway to the pavilion. The
cost of the engraving is $35 with a maximum of 15 characters on two lines. Please see
Marcia if you have more than 15 characters, as there will be an additional cost. Forms
are available in the narthex and can be given to Marcia.
