The shoes should be comfortable, with excellent cushioning, flexibility and shock absorption. To check for cushioning, put both shoes on. Then jump up and down on a hard surface. The shoes should feel elastic and comfortable. Next, test for flexibility: make sure that the shoe bends easily as you run. The upper of the shoe should not be too stiff. Leather is the best material, but it is expensive; so nylon is often used instead. Canvas is not a good material for the serious jogger, since it gives little support for the feet.

Writers often use synonyms (words with similar meanings) and paraphrases (phrases which are different ways of saying the same thing). They do this for two main reasons:
