From the Pastor’s Desk Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Over the past two weeks, Cardinal Cupich has asked each parish to read and publish in their bulletin his letter on Renew My Church. The purpose of

this program is to help the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese remain vibrant and serve the needs of its members.

The Renew My Church process will take a few years to reach its completion. One aspect of this program is that each parish in the Archdiocese has been assigned to a group. The parish that is in our group is St. Mary Star of the

Sea.

As it usually happens, I have heard that since this was announced, that the talk on the street is that our parish is going to be closed. I guess it is the

result of all of the press that this was given when the process began more than one and half years ago. I want to say that this is simply not true. I want

to take the moment to explain why.

First of all, over a given weekend, our parish provides Mass in three languages to around 1,600 people. This is not a small number. Can it

improve? Of course! The only way that will happen is if you invite others from your family and friends to join you at our Parish.

Second, if our weekly collections are around $6,800.00 to $7,200.00 or more. This is no small amount. Naturally, it would be great to have more income.

Yet, our collections are one of the best in our area.

Thirdly, we have an active parish. Our religious education program has more than 340 students. We have an active youth group that brings 35-40 young

people to weekly gatherings that provide faith formation and friendship. There are also active groups for couples, Seniors, Charismatic Prayer,

Readers, Communion Ministers, Legion of Mary, St Vincent de Paul Society, etc.

Yes, the next few years of the Renew My Church will challenge us to make some changes. These changes will hopefully help us to participate in a

Renewed Parish. This type of change is never easy. We are invited to more fully commitment ourselves to living out our faith in our daily lives. Again,

our parish is not closing.

Drodzy Bracia i Siostry w Chrystusie,

W ciągu ostatnich dwóch tygodni, kardynał Cupich zwrócił do każdej parafii aby odczytały i opublikowały w swoim biuletynie list na temat Odnów Mój

grupie to St. Mary Star of the Sea.

Modlitwy Charyzmatycznej, lektorów, Ministrów komunii, Legionu Maryi, zgromadzenie św Wincentego a Paulo, etc.

Ponownie, nasza

parafia nie będzie zamknięta.

Question of the Week How can my discipleship contribute some aspect of gospel truth unobtrusively, like salt, to the worlds in

which I move? Is there another situation that calls for my baptismal witness to shine more obviously, like a

light on a lampstand?

February is promising to be another cold winter month, a time in which the family looks forward to a steaming bowl of macaroni and cheese as a special after school treat for

the kids. “Mac and cheese” is always in demand, especially in the winter, and after our big Christmas Food Distribution,

the supply in the food pantry is very low. Consequently we are asking for your help with donations of the following

items In February:

BOXES OF MACARONII AND CHEESE

Please folks, check your donations and make sure that the dates are not expired, as we are unable to use

expired products.

Your donations can be placed in the box located in the vestibule of the church when you come to Mass, or they

can be taken to the Rectory during normal business hours.

Please take this opportunity to help all the needy families in our parish. Thank you for your donations and may God

Bless You for your generosity.

Penitential ActGreeting

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God and the Communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And with your Spirit

Penitential ActI confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have

greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous

fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.

May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. AMEN

This Little Light of Mine

A Prayer for You Today - Father of God, we pray for all those who are facing sickness in their bodies. We ask that you would restore their health, soothe their

pain, and ease their worry. Give them your peace and comfort as they wait.In Jesus’ name.....AMEN.

As children we sang the lively song This Little Light of Mine. The words, of course, are based on today’s Gospel, in which we are called as disciples to be salt and light for the world. Children are uninhibited about sharing their faith. It’s only when we grow older that we prefer to hide our light under a bushel basket because our culture tends not to emphasize discipleship. The message in this week’s readings is clear: in order to give glory to God through our discipleship, we must show the light of Christ in our words and deeds. Not an easy thing for inhibited adults. Often we may think of salt and light in terms of what we do for others, but it can be just as important not to do something, such as getting angry with the stranger on the road, or telling an offensive joke.

Parish Mission Statement

We Believe that God is Love, and when we live in love we live in God and God lives in

us! Therefore we, the Parish Family of Saint Turibius, dedicate ourselves to living out

Christ’s Great Commandment: we will love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind, and with all our strength, and we will show our love for God

by the way we love and care for one another. To this end, we will respond to our baptismal

call, strengthened by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and empowered by

the Holy Spirit. As a Family of Faith that has an Attitude of Gratitude for the gifts God has given to us, we will share our time, our talent

and our treasure with each other. We welcome into our parish family all people, because we

believe that together we are the Body of Christ and together we can bring the love, peace,

forgiveness, healing, and joy of Christ into our community in ways we never could have if we were to remain apart. May all who meet us, who worship with us, who work and play with

us, know we are Christians by our love!
