A safe community of animated learners enlightened by faith in God

O Lord, I will always sing of your constant love,

I will proclaim your faithfulness forever.

I know that your love will last for all time,

that your faithfulness is as permanent as the sky.

Your Kingdom is founded on righteousness and justice.

Love and faithfulness are shown in all you do.

Amen

Sustainability Strategy at St Michael’s

We are so fortunate to have students at St Michael’s who

display great concern for our environment. The Sustainability

Team has grown throughout the year. I thank our parents

Joanna S and Susan B as well as students Grace S, Adelaide

F, Stephanie P, Abigail G and a number of staff who are also

team members. We were disappointed to miss out on the Pick

my Project funds however that hasn’t dampened our spirit as

we continue to work on a number of initiatives focused upon

waste management and the reduction of rubbish within the

school. Please read our team’s tips further in the newsletter.

Opening of Dry River Bed

On Friday 12th October at 9:30am the Dry River Bed will be

officially opened. The Hon Kelly O’Dwyer MP the Federal

member for Higgins, Minister for Jobs and Industrial Relations

and Minister for Women will be present, as Kelly’s office

donated $570 worth of native shrubs to be planted around

the Dry River Bed. I am especially inviting all the Year 1/2

parents who assisted with the native tree planting in Term 2

to attend. The Year 1/2 students will also be invited as they

planted the plants. Thank you to all families for providing

funds of $13,000 for the dry river bed you are welcome to

attend this event.

Parent Requests 2019

If you have any urgent requests for your child for 2019 please

send them to me before Friday 19th October. As you are

aware, I do my best to accommodate wherever possible.

Some classes in previous years were quite uneven due to late

parent requests. To prevent this from occurring again I will not

be making changes after Friday October 19th. Please send

requests to [email protected] with

your valid reasons. All the requests will then be entered by me

into our Class Solver program.

Prep 2019 Information Evening

On Thursday 25th October at 7:30pm in the Hub, we are

presenting the Prep 2019 Information Evening. The Prep

teachers and leadership came together with members of our

amazing community will be providing vital information to

assist parents ensuring a smooth transition for our 2019 Prep

students. It is a wonderful night to meet and greet all new

and existing parents and I look forward to meeting you all.

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome Back

I welcome everyone back for Term Four, 2018. The last

term for this school year seems to have arrived very

quickly and as it is always an action packed term, we

hope that everyone feels refreshed and relaxed.

I anticipate that for our Year Six students this will be a

memorable term, particularly as it includes their

graduation and Confirmation. I feel positive this will be a

wonderful term for all students, parents and staff.

Junior Playground

Over the holidays the new junior playground was

constructed. It looks superb and will provide many joyous

hours of play for present and future generations of P-2

students. Congratulations to the playground

committee; the Term 1  SRC STUDENTS, Trudy, Belinda,

Amy, Susan and Joanna. Thank you to all families for

donating money to the PFA through their

various fundraising activities which raised $67,000 to pay

for this playground. It is a wonderful new addition to our

great school. All students from P-6 have had a turn on

the playground.

Confirmation

The students who will be receiving the Sacrament of

Confirmation in October will attend a Home Mass this

week or on the 16th October as part of their commitment

to their faith formation. Thank you to the, Baker, Molnar

and Smyth-Roberts families who have offered their home

for these Sacramental Home Masses. On Wednesday

17th October, the Confirmation candidates will spend

time with Monsignor Anthony Ireland and students from

other schools who are joining our community to

celebrate Confirmation. I look forward to joining the

families for this special event in the faith life of our

students. We continue to pray for these students and

their families.

School Advisory Council Nominations

In the next newsletter parents will be invited to self-

nominate for any vacant elected positions on the School

Advisory Council. The SAC is an extremely important

service to our school community and I thank the current

members for their support and expertise in determining

the future direction of St Michael’s.

Thank you to everyone who voted for our 'Sustainability Community Garden' idea in the 'Pick my Project' initiative.

We collected 248 votes. We were close but it wasn't quite enough to win funding, with 306 votes and above

winning funding in our local area  . Nevermind! We continue to explore other possible ways to win funding.

Meanwhile, the sustainability team are focusing our efforts on improving waste management processes across

the school.
