SEPT 2016 Employee of the Month This month, we chose to honor a familiar face to represent Lake Forest Park as Employee of the Month. This familiar face is the one you always see at the front desk: Darlene. Darlene has done an amazing job as our administrative assistant. She is very orderly, she is a hard worker, she has a deep care for all of the residents, and she has a very kind personality. We are extremely grateful to have employees such as Darlene, and we rejoice in her numerous gifts and talents she brings to Lake Forest Park. A Salute to ‘Star Trek’ On Sept. 8, 1966, the crew of the starship Enterprise invited TV audiences along on its mission “to boldly go where no man has gone before.” Fifty years later, “Star Trek” remains a permanent fixture of pop culture. Created by Gene Roddenberry, a former World War II fighter pilot-turned-TV writer and producer, “Star Trek” starred William Shatner as Capt. James T. Kirk, the charismatic leader of the U.S.S. Enterprise; Leonard Nimoy as Mr. Spock, his half-human, half-Vulcan first officer; and DeForest Kelley as the ship’s physician, Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy. Set in the 23rd century, “Star Trek” used the world of science fiction and alien characters to offer commentary on 1960s issues such as civil rights and war. The series was beloved by fans for its diverse casting and message of equality and peace, and the show has since been praised by critics for being ahead of its time. “Star Trek” was saved from cancellation by a massive letter-writing campaign and lasted three seasons. Later, the series won new fans in syndication and was revived in films and TV spinoffs. Our Lake Forest Family Local Parks As the weather begins to cool down, this will be a perfect time to get outdoors and visit some of our beautiful parks. The bus goes out on scenic drives two days a week. These pictures were taken at our local White City Park. Dear Lake Forest Friends, Family, and Residents, It is a wonderful privilege to have the opportunity to continue to serve you here at Lake Forest Park. It is our great hope that as you live here, you continue to enjoy a peaceful, encouraging, healthy, and happy way of life. We are always here to serve you and to enrich your life as much as we possibly can. As for the month of September, get ready to get all those fall season decorations out. As they say, after Labor Day, we officially kick off entering into the final months of the year, which bring about many enjoyable holidays. Also, for our big party this month, we will be hosting an ‘80s-themed party. Get ready to wear an ‘80s hairdo along with your neon clothes, as this will be a party to remember. As always, have a wonderful month and know that I am here if you need me. Tanya Ingram, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Darlene Gerri and Arletta Tiffany and Natalie Dot
