FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
OKMULGEE, OKLAHOMA
We have scheduled an All Church Garage Sale for Saturday, September 8, to help
raise funds to pay apportionments. If you have items that you would like to donate,
you can drop them off at the church during our regular office hours and we will be stor-
ing all of the donations in the Harmony class room until the day of the sale. Our appor-
tionment gifts make such a difference in Oklahoma and around the world. And we are
behind in our giving this year, so every donation can help us reach our goal of paying
them 100%. We can also use your help on the day of the sale and the days leading up
to the sale. It will be a great time of fellowship and good fun and it will also provide us
with an opportunity to interact with the people of Okmulgee.
It is exciting that the Kids Choir will begin evening rehearsals on Wednesday August
22, at 5:30p.m. We are excited about this great ministry in the church and are looking
forward to the new name that the choir will be choosing. A number of you have offered
suggestions and they are all being considered. If you would like to still make a sugges-
tion, you can call the church office this week and leave your suggestion for considera-
tion. We will name the choir at the upcoming rehearsal. We will also be gearing up for
our Fall Alpha Course so if you would like to sign up to attend Alpha or be on the lead-
ership team please let Roland know as soon as possible. Alpha will be meeting on
Wednesday evenings.
Please pray for the children and youth who will
be returning to school this week. Summer is end-
ing and Fall will be upon us shortly, so let’s inten-
sify our prayers for the church and all of the op-
portunities that will be taking place this season.
In Christ’s Service,
Roland

Do You Have A 6-String Acoustic Guitar?
Does anyone have a six-string acoustic
guitar sitting around your home, not being
used anymore? There are some young men
and women in our church who would wel-
come the opportunity to learn how to play!
Would you please consider donating any
unused guitar to our music ministry?
Thank you!

great things are expected of them once

Your help is needed to name the

News!
I would like to
thank everyone
for their love and
support of our
youth ministry. This summer has been full of ac-
tivities that would not be possible without your
thoughts, prayers, and support. Ten youth and
myself attended Camp Egan in June. What a
wonderful experience for the youth and I to get
away from the everyday grind of life and recon-
nect with God. We all had a great experience and
left Camp Egan with a renewed and refreshed
commitment to God and our church. Then in July
twelve members of the youth went to Chicago for
our annual youth mission trip. We learned about
current issues that have led to poverty and ine-
quality in Chicago. We were able to help people
through some of the hardships in their lives by
working in city gardens, food pantries, habitat for
humanity, and other organizations that are mak-
ing a difference in Chicago. The major point that
we all learned is that even in a city that has many,
many issues; there are people that are stepping
up to make a change. You could see God work-
ing in all of these volunteers. Many of them have
volunteered on a regular basis for multiple years
in a row. They really were an example of what we
as Christians should be doing in our community.
One of the volunteers that we worked with in the
city garden said it best, "No one can do every-
thing, but we all can do something".
