Meet your NB reps
Why I love working at NB:
For nearly four years, I have been a Running Specialty Account Manager at New Balance. NB is a privately held company, just like the accounts I work with, and that is probably my favorite part. The company focuses on work/life balance and leading an active lifestyle. I feel lucky to be a former ASP employee because I wouldn’t be at NB without my experience at ASP. I’ll never forget the time when Eddie announced my pregnancy at a group lunch, and I was sitting next to the Owner of NB who later shared that he was happy to be there for the announcement. Working at NB is more than just being a number while reporting back to Corporate Headquarters in Boston. It’s about being a part of a family and doing what’s right everyday… in Socal… for A Snail’s Pace.

So Cal
Since I joined the NB team over 4 years ago, I have taken on new responsibilities and worn a variety of hats from Trackster “Tech Rep”, managing in different states and cities. I just moved back to SoCal and am very excited to work for NB and partner with A Snail’s Pace. I love working for NB , because NB prides itself on being innovative and willing take appropriate risks . Moreover, New Balance is the only running company to manufacture shoes in our great country of America.NB's strength is creating a work environment that is very warm and family oriented, a direction set by Mr. Davis, our Chairman and not just a job.
I've been working for NB for a little over 3 years now and I still feel like there is much more to learn. All of the constant product innovation and research makes my job super exciting and fun. Our company culture is very welcoming, making me feel part of a close knit family. New balance is much more than an athletic shoe company, it's charitable, encourages volunteering and an active lifestyle that pushes everyone to become a better self. I'm also very proud to be part of the only major athletic company that still makes shoes in the U.S.A which happens to be privately owned. This is why I really enjoy being part of NB.

Paul Beckworth – A Snail’s Pace Monrovia
Assistant Manager
Where are you from originally and when did you move to So Cal? I was born in LA, and I have lived in Monrovia since I was a little kid. After college I lived in Anchorage and Denver for a few years, but now I'm glad to be home!
What got you started on running, when, where, etc.? I loved playing soccer, but was never very good. In my freshman year of high school, I went out for the cross country team to improve my endurance for soccer, but made the Varsity XC team by the end of my first season. So I stuck with running, and haven't looked back since!
What has been your favorite race and why? I loved running the 1600m at track meets in high
school. It was a perfect blend of speed, endurance, and racing tactics. So much fun!
What is the coolest place you have gone for a run? Both literally and figuratively, the coolest place I have run is in Alaska. Denali National Park is breathtakingly beautiful, and on multiple occasions I was "running" away from moose or caribou!
What are you training for now and how is it going? I'm doing a lot of hill work to prepare for the Mt. Wilson trail race. Every run I'm trying to incorporate at least
some uphill running.
Do you have any races that interest you? I would love to try a triathlon some day. If I ever make it back to Alaska, I'd like to to do the Mt. Marathon race in
Seward.
What are your current running goals? My primary running goal these days is to just have fun. Running can take up a lot of time in our lives, so
maintaining my joy and passion for it is always my top goal.
What is your best running tip? You can do more than you think you can!
Paul, #6864 leaning into the curve at Dana Point Turkey Trot.
Paul Beckworth (continued)
Why do you run? To feel the wind in my hair, and the ground beneath my feet.
Any other hobbies or interests? I'm a bookworm and a cinephile too .
What do you like most about working at A Snail’s Pace?My coworkers are like family :)
Why Do You Run?Rick Green, Fountain Valley
In 2012, Pearl Izumi ran an ad in Runners World. In an attempt to sell its shoes, in one inch type the
ad loudly proclaimed, “The marathon once a test of will, now a test of patience.” The ad bemoans the
transformation of the marathon from an elite athletic event in which few competed into “an all day
affair” that if given seven or eight hours, anybody can finish.
If the point of advertising is to evoke strong emotion, this ad was a huge success. This ad campaign
and Pearl Izumi generally was roundly criticized by the running community as pretentious snobbery.
Runners posted online comments in reaction to this ad vowing to never buy any of Pearl Izumi’s
products. Better known in biking circles, Pearl Izumi’s ad appeals to and assumes that the only reason
anyone would run is to condition their bodies to be the first across the finish line on race day.
Running is bigger than that. Way bigger than that.
To be fair, a few run to train themselves to contend in their age division. An even smaller few run to
break the tape or be the first person across the finish line. Realizing that they will never be the first
across the line, some run for a Personal Best or the satisfaction of crossing the finish line faster than
the last time they toed the line.
Some run for the transformative effect on their bodies. Very few activities burn calories faster than
running. Some run so they can enjoy that extra helping of pie and not gain weight. Some run to aid in
burning calories and lose weight. Running also builds a strong cardiovascular system, and contributes
to a healthy lifestyle.
Some run for the transformative effect on their minds. Heavy aerobic exercise like running releases
chemicals in the brain that naturally treat the chemical imbalances that cause depression, anxiety,
dementia and a whole host of neurologic conditions.
Some run for the social aspects of the sport. They enjoy time spent with friends out on the streets as
group exercise. To some, running is a cosplay experience. Go to any run Disney or Rock ‘n Roll event.
You’ll see runners dressed as Mickey Mouse, Elvis Presley, Princess Leia, or as their favorite super
hero.
Some run to be alone. Composing poetry, music, prose, and articles for running club newsletters in
their heads, some crave the time spent lost in thought in the almost hypnotic trance of listening and
feeling one foot fall after another for miles on end.
Finally, not all runners run. Run an out and back race and you’ll see that there are some participants
who are not running at all. Some cover the distance running, walking, and running while others push
the rim or turn the crank of a wheelchair. At the end of the day, it does not matter why. The only
thing that matters that you run.

Vongo – The first stability option in the Fresh Foam collection, earning the term, “Innovation at its finest.” This model will maintain that soft and smooth underfoot feel, but in a unique manner for the stability category. Like other shoes in the Fresh Foam collection, the Vongo features a one-piece midsole. However, stability is provided by overstuffing the medial footbed, offering an aggressive medial flare, embossing the top and bottom lateral side, and using two different outsole rubbers to create a channel. The Vongo package is unlike anything you’ve seen at NB!
