Important Points to Remember before Beginning

Doing simultaneous trace and data measurements To capture simultaneous data and trace measurements, you will have to make use of 2 COM ports. This

is means either a PCMCIA dual serial card, Edgeport/4 USB hub, or the E6473A Direct Connect Hubmust be used. When using the PCMCIA card or the Edgeport/4 USB hub, the Qualcomm break-out boxwith the proper data cable must be used. When using the E6473A Direct Connect Hub, you must usethe E6473A option 809 cable when using the Kyocera 2235/2255.

Also, if you are using the Kyocera 2235/2255 phone, the second UART must be enabled to dosimultaneous trace and data measurements. Please consult your local BDE about this.

Performing high data rate testing (230 Kbps)

Installing the Kyocera high speed modem driver

With the Qualcomm 1xRTT reference phone and the Kyocera 2235/2255, you must install the highspeed modem driver to allow data rates of up to 230 Kbps. Without this installed you will be limitedto 115 Kbps. See step 5 of Setting up the E6474A for making cdma2000 data measurements forinstructions on how to install the high speed modem drivers. This driver should be included in the

phone connectivity kit. Installing the Edgeport drivers

When the PC is connected to the E6473A Direct Connect Hub, the maximum achievable data rate is230 Kbps if the high speed modem drivers are installed. However, to enable the 230 Kbps data rate, the latest Edgeport drivers must be installed. Without the latest Edgeport drivers, the data rate willbe limited to 115 Kbps. These drivers can be found on the Nitro 3.0 software CD and can also befound on the following web site: http://ionetworks.com/support/index.htm .

If you are only going to be collecting data measurements (no trace measurements) you can make adirect connection from the PC COM port to the phone. This connection will allow up to a 230 Kbpsdata connection so long as the Kyocera high speed modem driver is installed.

When the phone is connected by a dual serial PCMCIA card, the maximum achievable data rate is115 Kbps.

    Do this Additional Information

    1. There are 4 main steps that must be completed inorder to initiate a data call.

    Configure the modem

Set up and configure the dial up connection

Set the COM port speed of the phone

    Set-up the data call sequence

Note: This step by step document to making cdma2000data measurement is written in the context of Windows2000. If you have a PC with Windows 95, 98, or NT, theprocess may be slightly different.

    2. Before configuring your cdma2000 phone as amodem, first make sure the phone is connected tothe PC and that it is properly configured to capture

trace measurements. For further details, refer tothe Step by Step Guide to capture Nitro phoneMeasurements document. Once this is done, fromthe Control Panel, double-click the Phone andModem Options icon.

Important: To capture simultaneous data and tracemeasurements, 2 com ports are necessary. Thismeans either a PCMCIA dual serial card or anE6473A Direct Connect Hub must be used.

    3. This displays the Phone and Modem Optionswindow. Click the Add button to add a newmodem device.

You can also start the measurements with Logging Moderather than Live Mode. Logging Mode allows you toreplay the measurement data at a later time. However, once logging has been started, you will be unable tochange any of the measurement

Unless you need to record the measurement data toanalyze it at a later time, Live Mode provides moreflexibility over Logging Mode. You can capture data during Live Mode by taking asnapshot of the measurement data with the reportgenerator. To use report generator, select Tools >Report Generator .
