Israel has been on my mind lately. I just returned from a fascinating, challenging, wonderful trip to Israel with 20 people, Jews and Christians from Syracuse. We spent almost two weeks crisscrossing the land, learning and exploring. Memories and pictures from our journey will be shared, but right now, another call beckons. As you read these words, significant events are occurring in Israel. With OUR MISSION We are a Reform Jewish congregation actively committed to strengthening individual and shared connections to God and community. We are dedicated to meeting the spiritual, intellectual, social, and cultural needs of our members. With respect for the diversity of our backgrounds, traditions, and practices, we join together in worship, study, celebration, and social action. elections taking place, a new coalition being formed and Israelis again casting ballots, big issues have reached the fore. Here in America, as the debates about Iran continue, we have an opportunity to make our own voices heard. The World Zionist Congress meets regularly to vote on matters of importance to Israel and the Jewish people. Right now, issues of equality for women, gay rights, and the role of reform and conservative Jews are being discussed. And the time is now to cast a vote. The American delegation to the world Zionist congress is comprised of many different parts. If we want our progressive values to be preserved, we must vote in large enough numbers to reach a majority. I urge you to go to www.reformjews4israel.org, sign up, and vote. March Madness! The Hebrew month of Adar is the happiest, craziest month of them all because it is Purim. a time of the year when we are commanded to

be merry by giving gifts to the poor, by listening to the amazing Purim story, by giving Mishloach Manot, gifts of food to one another, and having a party! It’s one of our most fun ways of celebrating our religious freedom. And we did just that at Temple Concord!

On Wednesday, March 4 we celebrated Purim with a fantastic Purim dinner followed by our Frozen Purim shpil and Megillah reading. Our Purim fun continued as the Syracuse Hebrew Day School put on the Purim play, “They Cast Lots”, written by our very own Eric Gould and Jonathan Dinkin. What wonderful performances and beautiful costumes. In Temple Concord music news, the Keneset Shalom Singers regaled us with joyous music during the Shabbat service on the last Friday of Adar. Shabbat services at Temple

Concord are always upbeat, fun, and full of ruach, spirit. If you haven’t joined us in a while, come and brush off the dust of the week. It is a fantastic way to recharge your battery as we welcome Shabbat together.

There were some wonderful events in March in school! We had two opportunities to see our students in action! The 3rd and 5th grades each lead a Saturday morning service this month. Please join us for our next school lead service on Friday, April 17 as the 4th grade class helps us to welcome in Shabbat. Come and see how much these wonderful students are learning! On Sunday, March 22, we had a community-wide educational program at Congregation Beth Sholom-Chevra Shas. It was a morning filled with fun learning activities and wonderful Stories of Our People told by Judith Black!
