Data Collection Non-face-to-face distribution
Sampling Method Random sampling (P: 98 S:78)
Data Analysis Descriptive analysis, Reliability
test, One Sample T-test , etc.
RESULTS
Influence of Project Manager Personality on Project Performance
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATION
It is found that the common personalities of project managers in construction industry are Extrovert,
Sensing, Thinking and Judging.
Extrovert and Thinking project managers perform positively towards project performance in construction
Industry.
Limitations include time limitation, limitation of sample size and respondents not available.
Implication: A person may get some training to become proficient at using a less preferred dimension of
their personality. This training would allow them to better use another facet of their personality and thus
to manage projects more succefully (Maurizio Bevilacqua, Filippo Emanuele Ciarapica, Michele
Germani, Giovanni Mazzuto and Claudia Paciarotti, 2014).
The suggestion for the future study could be to enlarge the sample size in order to get more accurate
results on the influence of project manager’s personality on other project based industry and.
PERSONALITY INDICATOR
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is chosen to test
project manager’s personality.
Four pair of dichotomous personality are to form 16
types of personalities.
It suits for measuring project manager’s personality
(Hammer &Barger and Dolfi &Andrews ,2007)
METHOD
RO 1: To identify the common personalities that project
managers in construction industry..
RO 2: To investigate the influence of project manager’s
personality on project performance in construction
industry.
Project Manager plays an important role in executing a
project. There is relationship between the project
manager’s personality and project performance.
Project manager’s personality is one of the factors that
affect project performance. However, there was no result
showing the influence of project manager personality on
project performance (Maurizio Bevilacqua, Filippo
Emanuele Ciarapica, Michele Germani, Giovanni
Mazzuto and Claudia Paciarotti, 2014).
Many industries state that the factors influence the construction project performance include design and drawings, poor coordination among participants, ineffective
monitoring and feedback. However, researchers have identified that there is relationship between the project manager’s personality and project performance and some
researchers have proposed that project manager’s personality might be one of the factors that affect project performance. Therefore, this study is aimed to study the
influence of project manager personality on project performance. 48 questions of personality test and 14 questions of project performance test was passed to 98
respondents out of which 78 responded. In this research, researcher identified the common project manager’s personalities such as extrovert, sensing, judging and thinking.
Besides, the extrovert and thinking project managers contribute positively to the project performance. With the evaluation of the influence of project manager’s personality
on project performance, it could raise up the industrial awareness to recruit project manager based on these types of personalities in order to achieve better performance in
construction projects.
