Ground Realities• Large number of wheelchair users, senior citizens, persons with mobility problems and reduced mobility cannot travel with Indian Railways since getting “in” and “out” of the train is a Herculean task

A transit ramp or lift that can bridge the gap!

• The mechanisms to bridge the horizontal and the vertical gap between the platform and the coach.

• A portable “wheelift” is tried and tested at the New Delhi Railway station with Engineers of Northern Railways, RDSO and representatives of Railway Board.

• An estimated 8,000 PwDs across 160 major railway stations, including Senior citizens would benefit by utilizing the wheelift every day !!

• Annually 3 million passengers would use the facility.

Cost of “wheelift”

• The total cost would be approximately INR 3.90 Lakhs (0.39 million) inclusive of all taxes and levies per wheelift
