Here at Fort Knox Security Ltdwe make all our own bespokeiron gates. The gates are designed and drawn using CAD, you will receive a copy of the design for your approvalbefore manufacturing commences.Once fabricated, gates are hot dip galvanised and powder coated to give a tough, long lasting finish. Theheavy duty hollow section iron takesthe galvanisation on the inside too.Prices are for 3600mm wide gates only.
The prices indicated below the photosare for the gates alone. You may need steel posts or brick piers if you don'talready have them. We are happy totake on this side of things for you andcan arrange local bricklayers for wingwalls as well as the actual brick piers.

We manufacture gates specifically forautomation, hollow section iron keepsthe weight down, prolonging the lifeof the system. Whenever possible wefit a centre stop to further improve thestability of the system. Open stops are an option but are not always suitable or possible to fit.

All gates are fitted with a tang extendingdown from the bottom of the closingstile of the gate. This enables the centrestop to sit low in the drive, helping toavoid grounding out problems.
We always fit gates using hinges that can be adjusted without having toremove the gates. This makes for easyservicing which leads to very highreliability.
Gate posts can be supplied in steel or in many cases we can use existing piers.We can advise on this when we cometo give you a free consultation. Weare also able to fit lights to your piers,these can be set to come on when the gates open or via a selection of methods.

Locking is achieved using a variety ofdevices including the automation itself.We offer magnetic locks, solenoid locks,and mechanical locks. Choosing the right lock for the system entails findingthe correct balance of security, safety and convenience. We are able to ask the right questions to help decide on what is right for you.
Railings
We fabricate railings to match ourrange of gates and can imitate existingrailings. We can also design and buildarchitectural metalwork such ashandrails and balconies, these too canbe made to match.
Pedestrian gates
As you would expect, side gates withautomatic closing, locking and accesscontrol all fall within our range of products.
Locking
Depending on the slope and the set outof the drive, it may be beneficial to usea sliding gate. Costs are comparable tothose of swing gates. We are often askedto design a sliding gate to look like a pair of gates, see 'The Richmond'.

Softwood gates are pretreatedand all gates can be coated on requestwith either paint, oil or wood preserver.The prices are for 3600mm x standard height. The material written in boldis the material used in the photo. The prices shown are for gates only.
Softwood gatesSoftwood offers good value for moneyas a material for making gates. Moderntreatments make it a viable option asthey can last for many years. As with all natural materials, distortion canoccur, for this reason we make all ofour gates with extra thick framing,traditional mortise joints and always use adjustable hinges to help prevent any problems.
Oak gatesOak gates are by far the most expensive and will last the longestwithout needing treatment. However,oak gates can tend to warp and split.This is not thought of as a defect and is considered to add character to a property. In most situations the gatesand the automation can be adjustedto tailor for any movement. Applyingcoats of wood preserver will reducethe effect but do need regularlyreapplying. The natural creamy beigecolour, left untreated, will darkenover the years.
Iroko gatesIroko is our preferred material for automatic gates. Priced between oakand softwood it has many advantagesover the two. Naturally stable and knotfree, it has a good resistance to rot.Easily treated with teak or linseed oilto maintain a rich, unique colour orleft alone to weather to a silvery grey.

Your new softwood TGV gates will have been factory treated with Kingfisher high quality oil based wood preservative.This base coat will offer good initialprotection for your gates, however we do recommend that they are givenfurther protection within a few months.We sugest Kingfisher K-X10 5 year woodstain. This ‘breathable’ treatment willensure many years of life from yourgates. We are able to offer the full serviceor can simply supply the products for you to apply yourself.
Softwood field gates/feather edge
Your new softwood field gates will havebeen factory pressure treated with ACQ,the industry standard wood preservative.This treatment is not possible with theTGV gates as it leads to warping of theboards. ACQ treated gates can be painted,stained or just left natural.
Hardwood gates
Your new hardwood gates do not needany treatment. You may wish to applya finish of your choice, again this is aservice that we do offer. The choicesare; oil, stain or paint. Teak oil is simpleand easy and can really enhance the lookof your gates. Untreated, hardwood gateswill fade to grey, regular application oftreatment will keep them looking newerfor longer. It really is down to personalpreference.

Please tell us of your requirementsand will inform you of the optionsavailable for hinging your new gates.The type of hinging that is suitablefor your gates is governed by thetype of automation required, theangle of opening needed, the sizeand weight of the gates, post size,position of hinge relative to post or pier and whether or not a gap at theside of the gates is appropriate.We can provide fillets or cover stripsto close any gaps if needed.We make our own specially curvedadjustable hinges. The steel shoes used to attach underground automation to wooden gates are our own custom design and are all galvanised and powder coated.
Post are made of either Oak or Softwood and come in various sizes. We hang our Iroko gates on 200mm (8") or 250mm (10") oak posts. Intercoms and video intercoms
Fort Knox Security use mainly Videx intercoms. These Italianunits have proved their reliability over the years and are alsosmart looking, as well as offering good value. We have found greatsuccess with the latest GSM system from Videx, eliminating the needfor cables. We also use NACD's 'TV-Tel' range as our solution for telephone based systems. All are available in surface or flush mounting versions.

Reader systems
These detect the presence of large metal objects such as carsor motorcycles. They are buried in the road surface and placedaccording to whether they are entry, exit or safety loops. Theycan be run through a timer for enhanced functionality.
TimersTimers are used for holding gates open, switching off 'open'buttons, switching on lights, disabling induction loops and a multitude of other functions.
KeypadsWe use a variety of keypads depending on the situation andusage. As with most intercoms and keypads, they are availablein flush or surface mounted and vandal resistant versions.
