A VERY SPECIAL PUPPY
So often we at the Allen County SPCA find ourselves staring down the wet nose of the unique case of a cat or dog who, without us, would have no chance of survival. Take, for example, Aerie, a very special puppy who was scheduled to be euthanized last fall. Ten-month-old Aerie was suffering from hip dysplasia, a common ailment among her breed, and her owners brought her to the
veterinarian’s office to be put down. Surgery to repair the hip was initially estimated at $800. Miss Aerie had won the heart of a vet tech who called us immediately to see if we could help. After a behavioral assessment, during which Aerie was deemed to be a sweetheart (who could already sit and shake!), the ACSPCA welcomed Aerie into our program to be fostered while she awaited further medical evaluation and testing. Last week, orthopedic surgeons informed us that Aerie’s hip has already deteriorated. She will now require a total hip replacement which will cost the shelter upwards of $4,000.
The Allen County SPCA established the Angel Fund to help with cases just like Aerie’s. If you would like to make a special contribution toward Aerie’s surgery, please send a check today, noting “Aerie” or “Angel Fund” in the memo line. Donations may also be made on our website. Thank you for considering a gift to help this beautiful dog and other animals like her. Aerie has asked us to shake your hand on her behalf.

DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
Three Cheers for the ACSPCACongratulations to the 413 dogs and 406 cats adopted 2012! That’s 819 once-homeless pets who found their human matches through the Allen County SPCA, and an increase of 348 pets over 2011! I’d like to acknowledge the whole staff who worked their tails off to achieve this milestone. We are also grateful to our major grant funders, Petco Foundation, the ASPCA and PetsMart Charities for providing us much-needed monies to transfer, treat and prepare all of those animals for adoption. Last, and most importantly, I want to thank you, our supporters and volunteers, for believing in us, for cheering our successes, for bragging about the shelter to your friends and family and for taking your role as members so seriously. We absolutely could not do what we do without you!
