A very special visitor…
Last week Room 7 was visited by a very special former Puketapu student, Erica Perry.
Erica suffers from the very rare Millers Syndrome and when she was at Puketapu, 25 years ago, she
was bullied because of the way she looks.
Erica spoke to Room 7 about three very important things for everyone:
Kindness
Positivity
Having an “I can do” attitude
Erica shared with us that she is going on
Outward Bound - go Erica!
Recognising, stopping and preventing bullying is something that everyone needs to play their part in.
The draft copy of our school’s reviewed Bullying Prevention Policy is included with this newsletter and we would like feedback from all parts of the
community about it.
Kia ora koutou. Nga mihi nui ki te whanau o te kura Puketapu.
Hello to parents and caregivers.
We have a long weekend coming up. Have fun and do take care in what you do.
You’ve got to like the All Black win over France whether you are a rugby fan or not! What a skill level! Commitment, training, head space, focus, teamwork, professionalism; very good role models!
Spring/Summer time means the challenge of keeping ourselves safe from the sun. This can be a very hard message to get across but is something we must take seriously. There are plenty of us who have sun-damaged skin as a result of not being careful when we were younger. Hats, hats, hats! It’s very important to get into the habit of wearing a hat outside (and then remembering to take it off inside). It is a great idea to have a school hat and leave it at school or in the school bag. There are a few spare hats at school, but bringing your own is much better.
The road works on Dillon Drive are making significant progress. Congratulations to the Let’s Go team who collected the traffic data and then persuaded the Council that change was required. The less cars we have around the school gates before and after school the better the Council likes it and the safer it is for everyone.
Health and fitness is a biggie for us all and will be ongoing. Ministry and Government policy have this in their thinking for all future planning. Right diet, right exercise, right head space are all important for the right outcomes.
Included with this newsletter is a draft policy on bullying prevention. Any comments would be welcomed, so please send an email or txt message through to Paula or myself.
Keep talking to your tamariki about their learning at school. Reading every day is very important and the supermarket shopping provides a great
Keep smiling and enjoy the rest of your week.
