A vibrant historic city

What we offerOur Carlisle Campus is on its own self- contained site, and is only around ten minutes walk from the town centre. The main buildings are 19th century on the outside, but 21st century on the inside as they have been refurbished to a very high standard, with well-designed, modern interiors that provide up-to-the-minute teaching and learning spaces. A range of new buildings has been added which house the Students’ Union activities, on-site accommodation and an impressive new £1m sports centre.

AccommodationOur on-campus hall of residence provides spacious, airy accommodation in 85 en-suite rooms. In addition, you can take advantage of our Headlease accommodation; houses within easy walking distance of the campus, which the College rents on your behalf.

SportThe Sports Centre, newly opened in September 2003, provides a teaching base for the new PE degree at Carlisle and an excellent recreational facility for all students based at the Carlisle Campus. It comprises a large four-court sports hall – ideal for basketball, badminton, indoor football and aerobics classes – a spacious state-of-the-art fi tness room containing joggers, steppers, rowers, cross trainers and bikes as well as a variety of resistance machines and free weights.

What else is available?A short walk into town opens up loads of possibilities for your leisure time. Much of the social scene is based around the cafés, pubs and clubs, many of which have specially discounted student nights. There are music and drama events held throughout the year at the city’s key venues: the Cathedral, the Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery, the Stanwix Arts Theatre, and the multi-purpose Sands Centre, which has everything from sports and leisure facilities, pop and rock groups to ballet and classical music productions. A multiplex cinema is also within easy reach of the campus. There is also a swimming pool and athletics track, golf course and a leisure centre, just a twenty minute walk from the campus.
