Re:SEO Status of Young Actors’ Theatre Website and Recommendations

This memo will indicate the search engine optimization status for the Young Actors’ Theatre website. It will outline where the organization’s website ranks on three different search engines. Also included are recommendations for improving the chances of having the website found by the organization’s target publics.

Because the Young Actor’s Theatre website does not include any keywords or phrases in its metadata, I searched the name “Young Actor’s Theatre,” the phrase “children’s theatre in San Diego,” and “San Diego junior theatre” in three search engines. According to an article from www.ebizmba.com, the top three most popular search engines for February 2012 are Google, Yahoo and Bing.

Google: When I searched for “Young Actors’ Theatre” on Google, the first three search results are of the YAT website. Next, I searched the phrase “children’s theatre in San Diego.” When I did this, the Young Actors’ Theatre did not come up in the first 11 search results. Finally, when I searched for “San Diego junior theatre,” the Young Actors’ Theatre did not show up in the results.

Yahoo: When I searched for “Young Actors’ Theatre” on Yahoo, the first, fourth and ninth search results were of the YAT website. However, another Young Actors Theatre in Tallahassee, Fla. not in association with the YAT in San Diego is more prominent in the results. When I searched “children’s theatre in San Diego,” the YAT website does not appear in the first five pages of results. Lastly, the YAT website did not appear in the first 20 pages of results when I searched for “San Diego junior theatre.”

Bing: When I searched “Young Actors’ Theatre” on Bing, the YAT website was ranked third in the results. When I searched “children’s theatre in San Diego,” the YAT did not appear in the results. Lastly, when I searched “San Diego junior theatre,” the YAT website did not appear in the first 10 pages of results.

Recommendations: In order to increase the chances of the YAT website being found in either Google, Yahoo or Bing, keywords and phrases will have to be added to the website’s metadata. The lack of searchable terms in the metadata has caused the YAT website to fall secondary to other junior theatres. By adding key terms that are searchable, the YAT will be able to traffic more viewers to its website.
